‘WWE: Saturday Night’s Main Event’ Review (Jan 25th 2025)

by Phil Wheat

Guess who’s back, back again… It’s Saturday Night’s Main Event! Yes, the classic WWE brand returns for a much-anticipated show, and the second “special” since the brand’s return last month! Let’s get straight into it and see what went down on this week’s show!

Match #1: Rhea Ripley def. Nia Jax

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Despite Nia Jax hitting Rhea Ripley with a cheap shot headbutt before the bell, the Women’s World Champion countered an Annihilator attempt with a electric chair shortly before hitting the Riptide to retain her title in an extremely physical matchup.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #2: Bron Breakker def. Sheamus

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Despite Sheamus putting forth an incredible effort to capture the one title that has eluded him in WWE, Bron Breakker reigned supreme in the slugfest when he hit a massive Spear on The Celtic Warrior’s injured ribs for the three-count.

My Score: 3.5 out of 5

Match #3: Braun Strowman def. Jacob Fatu (DQ)

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Before a winner could be determined in a clash pitting The Monster of All Monsters against The Samoan Werewolf, Jacob Fatu refused to stop attacking Braun Strowman in the corner and instead threw the official out of the ring to get disqualified. The action, however, did not stop there, as Fatu ignored numerous officials surrounding him in the ring and delivered three post-match Springboard Moonsaults on his fallen opponent.

My Score: 2 out of 5

Match #4: Gunther def. Jey Uso

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

“Main Event” Jey Uso YEETed World Heavyweight Champion Gunther to the limit with the title on the line, but The Ring General roared back from two Spears and an Uso Splash to finish Uso with a pair of thunderous Powerbombs.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Final Verdict: 3/5

Who would’ve thought that the combination of great matches and the nostalgia for an old show would work so well? Not as well as the debut edition mind you, but still… this was a decent enough show that had some good matches, a great match and a not-so-great match. But all in all, this was another good episode of Saturday Night’s Main Event.
