‘WWE Raw’ Review (Aug 19th 2024)

by Phil Wheat

Welcome to this review of this past Monday’s episode of WWE Raw, right here on Nerdly. Let’s see what went down on this week’s show!

Match #1: Sheamus def. Pete Dunne

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

When Pete Dunne trapped Sheamus’ injured hand inside the turnbuckle in order to further the injury, The Celtic Warrior ripped the turnbuckle off the rope and leveled his one-time friend with an earth-shattering Brogue Kick for the three-count.

My Score: 3.5 out of 5

Match #2: Maxxine Dupri vs. Ivy Nile (No-Contest)

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Sister Abigail interrupted Maxxine Dupri’s match against Ivy Nile. Seconds later, the rest of The Wyatt Sicks joined her and obliterated all four members of American Made.

My Score: 1.5 out of 5

Match #3: Odyssey Jones & The New Day def. The Final Testament

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Odyssey Jones picked up the pin to give himself, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods the victory over Karrion Kross and AOP in a Six-Man Tag Team Match.

My Score: 2 out of 5

Match #4: No Disqualification Match – Bronson Reed def. The Miz

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

In a No Disqualification Match that incorporated chairs, Kendo sticks and trash cans,“Big” Bronson Reed hit The Miz with the Death Valley Driver through a table and a Tsunami for the huge victory. When Reed attempted to continue his attack after the match, however, Braun Strowman emerged to prevent the massive Superstar from unleashing more Tsunamis on The A-Lister.

My Score: 2 out of 5

Match #5: WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship Triple Threat Match – Alba Fyre & Isla Dawn def. Damage CTRL and Pure Fusion Collective

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

After Isla Dawn took advantage of the Triple Threat chaos to tag herself into the match when no one was looking, she and Alba Fyre used a Backstabber/Swanton combination onto a stacked Shayna Baszler and Kairi Sane to retain the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #6: Randy Orton def. Ludwig Kaiser

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Ahead of his World Heavyweight Title Match against Gunther at WWE Bash in Berlin, Randy Orton hit an RKO to put away Ludwig Kaiser in Raw’s main event. Seconds later, The Viper drew an imaginary line in the sand. In response, Gunther stepped into the ring, and the two brawled as Raw concluded.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Final Verdict: 3/5

Probably on a par with last week’s show, this episode of Raw did at least deliver a few good matches in the opener, the women’s tag match and the main event. The rest of the card was very much meh, and – unfortunately – it does seem like the WWE are headed into breaking up the New Day and turning at least one of the original trio heel. I’m hoping Kofi’s going heel rather than the more obvious Xavier Woods, it could revitalise his character TBH. Plus this week we got more Wyatt Sicks stuff… which is always a bonus!
