‘WWE Raw’ Review (Aug 12th 2024)

by Phil Wheat

Welcome to this review of this past Monday’s episode of WWE Raw, right here on Nerdly. Let’s see what went down on this week’s show!

Match #1: Damian Priest def. Carlito

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Moments after Damian Priest defeated Carlito with South of Heaven, The Judgment Day attacked their former friend. In response, Rhea Ripley emerged to help Priest repel the onslaught.

My Score: 2 out of 5

Match #2: Odyssey Jones def. Vincent Winey

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

After The New Day stood at ringside to watch Odyssey Jones win his Raw in-ring debut with the Spinning Sidewalk Slam against the Performance Center’s Vincent Winey, Karrion Kross and The Final Testament emerged to cast doubt on what the mammoth Superstar means to the future of The Power of Positivity by claiming that Jones was there to replace Xavier Woods. In response, a Six-Man Tag Team Match was proposed between the adversaries.

My Score: 0 out of 5

Match #3: American Made def. Alpha Academy

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

American Made overcame Alpha Academy in a Texas Tornado Tag Team Match when a volatile distraction caused by Ivy Nile’s attack on Maxxine Dupri allowed The Creeds to pick up the quick pinfall on Akira Tozawa.

My Score: 3.5 out of 5

Match #4: Damage CTRL vs. Shayna Baszler & Zoey Stark (No Contest)

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

After Alba Fyre suffered an accidental kick outside the ring, the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions attacked Damage CTRL and Pure Fusion Collective to end the WWE Women’s Tag Team Title No. 1 Contenders Match with a no-contest.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #5: Bronson Reed def. The Miz

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

After R-Truth got The Miz into a match against “Big” Bronson Reed, the intimidating Superstar overcame The A-Lister with the Tsunami. After the match, Truth stepped between Reed and The Miz and ended up suffering five Tsunamis.

My Score: 2 out of 5

Match #6: 2-out-of-3 Falls Match – Bron Breakker def. Sami Zayn

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Sami Zayn captured the first fall with an incredible Helluva Kick. Bron Breakker roared back, hitting Zayn with two Spears shortly after launching the challenger into the ring barricade with incredible force. He then picked up the final fall when he hit Sami with another devastating Spear, connecting with Zayn as the former champion jumped from the top rope.

My Score: 3.5 out of 5

Final Verdict: 3/5

Not as good as last week’s show, this episode of Raw did at least deliver a few good matches in the two tag matches and the main event. The rest of the card was very much meh, with the Damin Priest/Carlito match feeling like a huge dropoff from last week’s high of the Judgment Day breakup promo(s). One thing I’m NOT enjoying is the Odyssey Jones/New Day stuff – not because of anything the guys are doing, just that I feel it could be the final nail in the New Day coffin, breaking the team up out of jealousy. Which doesn’t feel like a New Day thing TBH, I’d much rather see them admit Big E can’t come back and wrestle and make New Day 2.0 with Jones but also WITH Big E’s blessing – have him manage, be in the corner whatever. But THAT’S what should happen not what I think Triple H and co are going to do. As many people commented on Twitter/X this week – the crowd were really behind everything on this show, which pasted over a lot of the cracks in this episode.
