Fantasia 2024 Preview: Feminist horror short ‘Berta’

Berta, the new short by Spanish director Lucía Forner Segarra, will have its World Premiere at the Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal as part of the Official Selection of the highly popular Born of Woman showcase.

Berta tells the story of a woman called Berta who seeks understanding from a man that hurt her in the past. Despite her methods might be seen as unorthodox, she’ll make her point.

After the success of Marta and Dana, Forner Segarra completed her trilogy of feminist horror shorts with Berta, starring Spanish actors Nerea Barros (as the title role Berta), and Elías González, and a cameo by her long-time muse Thais Blume. Montreal genre filmmaker Patricia Chica acts as executive producer through her company Flirt Films.

Berta screens at this year’s Fantasia on Sunday, July 28th, 2024 at 4:00pm.
