‘AEW: Rampage’ Review (May 11th 2024)

by Phil Wheat

It’s Monday so you know what that means, it’s time for our weekly review of AEW: Rampage! This week’s show aired straight after Collision on Saturday night and, like that show, emanated from Rogers Arena in Vancouver, Candaa. This show featured Tony Schiavone, Nigel McGuinness and Matt Menard on commentary. Now let’s get to the review…

Match #1: Trent Beretta def. Dalton Castle

The following is courtesy of allelitewrestling.com:

Castle threw Trent to the mat with a gut wrench. Dalton cracked Trent with a running knee strike, knocking Trent off the apron to the floor. Trent spiked Dalton with a draping DDT on the apron. Trent and Dalton collided into one another with lariats, both falling to the mat from the impact of the double clotheslines. Dalton Castle slammed Trent to the mat with a gut wrench suplex. Trent fired back with a piledriver for a near fall. Dalton countered a DDT with a German Suplex. Trent gouged Dalton in the eyes. Trent applied a triangle choke and forced Dalton to tap out!

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Match #2: “The Bounty Hunter” Bryan Keith def. JD Drake

The following is courtesy of allelitewrestling.com:

Keith chopped at Drake, but Drake fired back with a clubbing blow. Keith connected with a flying shoulder and then body slammed Drake. Keith finished off Drake with an over-the-top stunner to Drake for the pin!

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Match #3: Deonna Purrazzo def. Lady Frost

The following is courtesy of allelitewrestling.com:

Purrazzo swept out Lady Frost’s leg on the apron. Deonna pump kicked Lady Frost in the face. Lady Frost fired back with a clothesline and a question mark kick, mounting quite the comeback. Frost flipped into the corner with a cannonball splash. Deonna caught Lady Frost with a knee strike and then a Russian Leg Sweep. Lady Frost rallied back with a tornillo. Lady Frost climbed back up the turnbuckles, but Deonna tied her up in the tree of woe. Deonna charged at Lady Frost with a running shoulder to the midsection and pinned Lady Frost.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Match #4: Pac def. Johnny TV

The following is courtesy of allelitewrestling.com:

Pac smoked TV with a shotgun dropkick. Pac followed up with a moonsault to Johnny TV on the arena floor. Pac landed on his feet! Taya distracted Pac long enough for Johnny to rake Pac in the eyes. Johnny splashed Pac with a standing moonsault. Johnny kissed Taya and when Johnny returned to the ring, Pac smashed Johnny with a running ax handle and then a flying forearm. Taya distracted Pac long enough for Johnny to blindside Pac with a tope con hiro and then a swinging neck breaker. Pac rolled out of the way of the Starship Pain from Johnny TV. Pac climbed to the top turnbuckle, but Taya jumped back on the apron. Taya tried to slap Pac in the face, but Pac blocked it. Johnny charged at Pac, Pac moved out of the way, and Johnny inadvertently collided with Taya! Pac applied the Brutalizer and Johnny TV tapped out!

My Score: 3 out of 5

Final Verdict: 3/5

Being the latter half of a three-hour show could’ve hurt Rampage this wee but instead the great wrestling action continued for this hour. There was nothing extraordinary but what we got was solid in-ring action, with a main event that continues Pac’s comeback trail – a trail I hope to god leads to a title run for the b*stard. He certainly deserves it given how much he’s stuck by AEW and vice versa. Plus, this week’s show had JD Drake in action, so what’s not to love?!
