‘AEW Dark: Elevation – Episode 66’ Review

by Phil Wheat

Welcome to this week’s review of AEW Dark: Elevation which has a short run time and a four-match card. I could honestly get used to these shorter shows! On commentary this week we have Paul Wight, Mark Henry AND Tony Schiavone. Let’s get right into the action, which comes from the KIA Forum (aka The Forum) in Los Angeles, California.

Match #1: The Factory (Aaron Solo, QT Marshall, Nick Comoroto and Anthony Ogogo) def. Dark Order (John Silver, Alex Reynolds, Alan “5” Angels and 10)

My Thoughts: This was a good, but not great, match. The kind of match you can watch without really paying attention to it and still know exactly what’s going on. Can’t believe Dark Order lost to The factory though, it looks like the faction are back to losing match after match, week after week. Do we need an injection of new blood into Dark Order? Probably.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Match #2: Frankie Kazarian def. Serpentico

My Thoughts: Kazarian popped the crowd before the match by coming out with Christopher Daniels and “reuniting” SCU for one night only… Sort of. This was a typical AEW quasi-squash match, with Kazarian giving Serpentico just enough rope to hang himself, as the saying goes! Daniels was a distraction for Serpentico, who spent far too much time messing with the Fallen Angel rather than focussing on Kazarian. And he paid for it. And do I need to say it, a better match for NOT having Luther at ringside…

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Match #3: Serena Deeb and Nyla Rose def. Miyu Yamashita and Skye Blue

My Thoughts: Miyu Yamashita makes her AEW debut and, despite being on the losing team, looked really good. Yamashita held her own against Serena Deeb at first before succumbing to the Professor’s technical mastery. Speaking of Deeb, her aggression worked really well with Nyla Rose and the two made for a vicious tag team. Looking forward to, hopefully, seeing more of Yamashita in future.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #4: Death Triangle (Rey Fenix, Penta Oscuro and Pac) def. Wingmen (Ryan Nemeth, Cezar Bononi and Peter Avalon)

My Thoughts: This was a quasi-squash but of the trios team variety… Which actually made for a nice change. You knew Death Triangle were going to make mincemeat of the Wingmen but there was fun to be had in them doing so. Good to see PAC punishing Ryan Nemeth to get the win!

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Final Verdict: 3/5
