Doom: The Dark Ages’ Revelations DLC gets free endless Slaughter Mode in November

by Nerdly Team

id Software has confirmed that Doom: The Dark Ages’ Revelations DLC will receive a free update in November that adds Slaughter Mode, a new endless single-player activity. The studio has only committed to November so far and has not named a specific day, so anyone hoping to circle a date on the calendar will have to wait.

The news came during a Slayers Club Live livestream featuring Hugo Martin, game director on Doom: The Dark Ages, according to IGN. Gamereactor also covered the announcement. The broadcast set out the basic outline of the mode but left many of the finer details for later.

From what id has shared, Slaughter Mode works as a survival gauntlet. Players will face escalating waves of demons spread across multiple arenas, with each encounter following on from the last until the run comes to an end. It is a solo-only mode built for replaying, with players chasing personal bests for both the number of rounds survived and their overall score.

Runs will also offer cosmetic rewards, giving players something to collect beyond high scores. However, id has not explained how those cosmetics will be earned, whether they are linked to particular milestones, scores or round counts, or how many will be available. As Gamereactor notes, the announcement establishes Slaughter Mode as a solo, replay-focused option but does not describe any further systems sitting underneath it.

The key point for existing Revelations owners is that the mode will not cost anything extra. Slaughter Mode is being added through a free update rather than as a separate paid release, so players who already have the DLC will get the new endless option without another purchase.

Wave-based arena modes are a natural fit for a series built on fast, aggressive combat against large groups of enemies, and the score and round tracking points to a mode aimed at players who want to keep refining their runs long after finishing the main content. Whether id adds leaderboards, modifiers or other variations has not been addressed, and the studio has offered nothing beyond the core idea of successive demon encounters, cosmetics and personal-best tracking.

For now, the confirmed facts are limited: Slaughter Mode is coming to Doom: The Dark Ages’ Revelations DLC, it is free, it is single-player and endless, and it is due in November. id Software has not given a more precise release window or detailed how the mode’s mechanics and rewards will work. Further information is likely to follow closer to launch, and Nerdly will report any confirmed date and fuller details once the studio shares them.
