‘AEW Dark: Elevation – Episode 107’ Review
Welcome back to another review of AEW Dark: Elevation, which features nine matches this week and plenty of Canadian talent. We’ve got regulars Paul Wight and Matt Menard on commentary as usual. So let’s get into the review!
Match #1: Skye Blue def. TFA (Taryn from Accounting)
My Thoughts: This was a pretty decent and competitive opener for this week’s show and both women delivered throughout the match. Great to see TFA get some exposure via AEW too.
My Score: 2.5 out of 5
Match #2: Jake Hager def. Adam Knight
My Thoughts: Adam Knight looked like he might give Jake Hager a run for his money, especially given how competitive the previous match was, but no. This was a squash of the highest order with Hager eventually hitting Knight with a Vader Bomb to get the win!
My Score: 1 out of 5
Match #3: Emi Sakura def. Zoe Sager
My Thoughts: I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Emi Sakura really knows how to give her opponents space and time to showcase their skills and their abilities in EVERY match she has. ANd this is no different. Zoe Sager looked great here, fighting back against Sakura’s offence and holding her own – even if you knew the outcome was never in doubt.
My Score: 2.5 out of 5
Match #4: Brandon Cutler def. Jason Geiger
My Thoughts: Brandon Cutler’s back for a comedy match and as such your mileage may vary in terms of enjoyment of this one! Jason Geiger looked like he could’ve taken Cutler at any point in this, that’s how stupid Cutler was being in this match.
My Score: 2 out of 5
Match #5: Matt Hardy, Isiah Kassidy and Ethan Page def. Massive Damage, Mo Jabari and Sebastian Wolfe
My Thoughts: This was a trios match that was also a complete squash match – which was surprising to be honest. Normally we’d get something a little more competitive but not this match. Matt Hardy, Isiah Kassidy and Ethan Page were in complete control of this one from the get go.
My Score: 1 out of 5
Match #6: Top Flight (Dante and Darius Martin) def. Michael Allen Richard Clark and Shaun Moore
My Thoughts: And we get another squash match on this week’s show! To be fair, Top Flight SHOULD be squashing enhancement talent – they’re a top of the card tag team so if they struggle in matches like this that’s only damaging to their rep in AEW.
My Score: 1 out of 5
Match #7: Athena def. Taylor Rising
My Thoughts: Woah. This was a shocker. Athena DIDN’T demolish her opponent here! What’s going on? Instead Taylor Rising brought the fight to Athena and made this one feel much more like a fight than anything we’ve seen from Athena recently. Great match!
My Score: 2.5 out of 5
Match #8: Naturally Limitless (Keith Lee and Dustin Rhodes) def. Levi Knight and Jessie V
My Thoughts: This felt like something of a tune-up match for Keith Lee and Dustin Rhodes, as if they were trying out stuff, working out their timing etc. all the while squashing some guest talent. Who probably LOVED being in the ring with two legends like this, no matter the fact it was a squash match!
My Score: 1 out of 5
Match #9: Dark Order (John Silver and Alex Reynolds) def. Tony Nese and Ari Daivari
My Thoughts: Dark Order’s climb continues with a main event match on Elevation. Now that’s not something new for Dark Order but… this felt more like a real match rather than some of the more fun stuff Dark Order have done in YouTube main event matches in the past. I’m hoping all this momentum for Dark Order really comes to something in the future, those guys deserve it.
