‘AEW: Dark’ Review (Mar 14th 2023)
Another week, another episode of AEW: Dark which this week features a mere FIVE matches (music to my ears!) Anyway, on with the review…
Match #1: Dark Order (John Silver & Alex Reynolds) def. The Outrunners (Turbo Floyd & Truth Magnum)
My Thoughts: Well this was a decent opener! I’m not sold on The Outrunners, who currently feel more like a gimmick than a legitimate tag team, but they certainly held their own against Reynolds and Silver. Though the angle with Aubrey was weird…
My Score: 2.5 out of 5
Match #2: Riho def. Diamante
My Thoughts: Damn! This was a fantastic match. Diamante had an actual decent opponent in Riho – after all, she’s been demolishing enhancement talent on AEW’s YouTube shows for a while now (in both singles and tag matches) so this was really refreshing! This should be run back on Rampage IMHO.
My Score: 4 out of 5
Match #3: Sonny Kiss def. Terry Kid
My Thoughts: Nice to see Sonny Kiss back in singles action. Kid worked well as the heel in this one, but it was something of a battle for Kid, as despite Kiss’ heel persona the crowd were well behind them! But no matter, Kiss wrestling is always a plus.
My Score: 2 out of 5
Match #4: Julia Hart def. Zoey Lynn
My Thoughts: This was your typical AEW quasi-squash, with Zoey Lynn getting just enough offence in for this to not be a total wash. Hart’s skills keep growing with each and every match and now she looks even more comfortable in her new persona as well.
My Score: 2 out of 5
Match #5: Action Andretti def. Lee Johnson
My Thoughts: This was a superb main event for this week’s Dark. A fast-paced spot-fest in the best possible way. There was a minor botch or two, but given how fast these guys were working and with such momentum it can be forgiven. I could’ve done without the Cole Karter shenanigans though!
