Another slice of Surrender Cinema, the cheesy and sleazy sister company of Full Moon, who are notorious for delivering films packed with T&A, and Haunted Hotties does not disappoint. However, the film also delivers on the story (for a change).
Haunted Hotties sees a Professor’s search for the perfect test subject for his invisibility serum lead him to an exotic night club with a macabre twist… all the dancers are blood-sucking creatures of the night! Oh, and another of his serums, one that does for women what viagra does for men, also turns the test subjects into zombie-like rampaging killers!
So we’ve got a mad scientist, vampires and “zombies” plus plenty of nudity in a film that feels like a modern-day Carry On movie. Complete with ridiculous cheesy characters, stupid situations and some acting that has LITERALLY stepped off a porn movie set (just look at that cast of names above) because yes, despite the genre trappings, Haunted Hotties – like most Surrender Cinema films – plays things for total laughs.
Yet much like the heavily-censored adult titles that proliferated UK rental shop shelves pre-Blockbuster, Haunted Hotties feels like it’s been censored itself, with characters seemingly on the cusp of having sex and then the scene cuts… Given that the running time is 70 minutes there are no cuts (as far as I’m aware) which makes the whole thing a brilliant homage to an almost forgotten era of cinematic history. After all, when was the last time you actually watched a censored version of a film? You probably haven’t, the internet has – thankfully – democratised censorship!
Though it’s cheesy and some might say almost innocent (though there’s a TON of nudity it’s never salacious), fun and laughs – the kind of laughs where a character is turned into a gorilla for a joke laughs. Haunted Hotties is ridiculousness personified and I loved it, even when the film jumped around all over the place ultimately making it a weird incoherent “is this really only 70 minutes long because it feels like hours” mess!
Haunted Hotties is available to stream on Full Moon Features and Tubi now.
