‘AEW Dark: Elevation – All Out Special’ Review (Sept 3rd 2022)

by Phil Wheat

Welcome to this review of a special pre-All Out AEW Dark: Elevation. We’ve got Tony Schiavone and Matt Menard on commentary for this bonus episode so let’s see what the show has to offer!

Match #1: Sammy Guevara and Tay Melo def. GPA and Laynie Luck

My Thoughts: The only thing I took away from this match was that a) I’m tired of the Sammy and Tay schtick and b) How the f*ck does that pair get three matches in two weeks whilst Eddie Kingston is stuck with one match on the All Out pre-show? Screams a desperate attempt to squash the “Sammy is har to work with” rumours TBH.

My Score: 1 out of 5

Match #2: Swerve in our Glory (Swerve Strickland and Keith Lee) def. Jah-C and Storm Grayson

My Thoughts: Swerve in our Glory get a quick tune-up match prior to their All Out title match against The Acclaimed tonight. And by quick I mean they get to squash Jah-C and Storm Grayson in easy fashion. Poor Jah-C, no matter his tag partner(s) he’s always getting squashed!

My Score: 1 out of 5

Match #3: Hangman Page and Dark Order (John Silver and Alex Reynolds) def. The Factory (Cole Karter, Aaron Solo, and Nick Comoroto)

My Thoughts: Another pre-All Out outing for one of the tag teams headed to the Trios Championship final tonight. This one featured Nick Comoroto going all-out (pun intended) with his Razor Ramone “homage” Nicky Boy and I’m here for it. It’s ridiculous but fun and at least means Comoroto has some personality other than “big guy”.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Match #4: The Acclaimed (Max Caster and Anthony Bowens) def. Invictus Khash and JPH

My Thoughts: This was a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it quick squash from The Acclaimed. And that’s exactly what happened to me! At least Invictus Khash got SOME offence in.

My Score: 1 out of 5

Match #5: Ortiz and Ruby Soho def. Emi Sakura and Baliyan Akki

My Thoughts: This match was fast and furious, with Baliyan Akki really shining; whilst Ortiz and Soho seem to have cemented who and what they are as a mixed-tag team, rally gelling in this one.

My Score: 2 out of 5

Match #6: Orange Cassidy and Best Friends (Chuck Taylor and Trent Beretta) def. Angelico, The Butcher, and The Blade

My Thoughts: This match got plenty of time to play out, with both teams getting the advantage as various times throughout the match. Angelico’s little spot with Danhausen was daft fun, whilst Orange Cassidy, Trent and Chuck Taylor finally stepped up a gear to overcome and on-form Butcher and Blade.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Final Verdict: 2.5/5
