They drew First Blood… Again! ‘John Rambo’ starts production

by Phil Wheat

John Rambo – yes, that Rambo – has officially entered production in Bangkok, Thailand, and honestly? This one already feels HUGE. The film rewinds the clock to tell the origin story of one of cinema’s most iconic badasses, with Noah Centineo (The Recruit) stepping into the boots of the ultimate one-man army. And if that wasn’t exciting enough, it’s being unleashed by Jalmari Helander, the gloriously unhinged mind behind Sisu – so expect grit, brutality, and absolutely zero chill.

The screenplay comes courtesy of Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani (Black Adam, The Mauritanian), while the producer list reads like an action-cinema Hall of Fame. Long-time franchise power players Kevin King Templeton and Les Weldon are back in the trenches, with Executive Producer duties handled by Anthony Russo and Joe Russo. Yeah. Those Russos. The Infinity War/Endgame Russos (can we get that level of epicness from John Rambo?) The film will hit cinemas via Lionsgate.

Storywise, John Rambo takes us back years before First Blood, digging deep into the trauma, survival, and experiences that shaped one of the most enduring – and surprisingly complex – action heroes ever put on screen. This isn’t just explosions and body counts (though, let’s be real, there will be plenty of those). This is the making of Rambo.

Centineo is backed by a seriously tasty ensemble too, including yao (Sinners), Jason Tobin (A Thousand Blows), Quincy Isaiah (Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty), Jefferson White (Yellowstone), and Tayme Thapthimthong (The White Lotus).

An R-rated icon. A savage director. A stacked creative team. And an origin story fans have never seen before. Rambo… LITERALLY starts here.
