‘Aeon Flux’ 4K UHD Steelbook Review

In the early 1990s, MTV introduced audiences to Aeon Flux, a groundbreaking sci-fi animated series unlike anything seen before. Mixing action, adventure, and stylish futuristic storytelling, it quickly became a cult favourite.

In 2005, Aeon Flux made the leap to the big screen with a live-action adaptation. Now, to celebrate the film’s 20th anniversary, Paramount Pictures Home Entertainment has released a special edition SteelBook. This collector’s release includes a 4K Ultra HD disc, a Blu-ray, and a digital copy – making it the ultimate way to revisit this bold, visually striking sci-fi experience.

Academy Award-winner Charlize Theron stars as Aeon Flux, the underground operative fighting totalitarian rule in the 25th-century Earth’s last living city. Aeon is the rebels’ best hope of overthrowing the oppressively sterile, “perfect” society. But while on assignment to gun down the government’s leader, Aeon uncovers a web of startling secrets that could completely change the world’s future in the gripping sci-fi action thriller based on the ground breaking MTV animated series.

The live-action Aeon Flux had an almost impossible task ahead of it: living up to the wildly imaginative and iconic animated series. The original was so groundbreaking that few adaptations could ever hope to match its style and impact. However, if you approach the film on its own terms, there’s plenty to appreciate. Charlize Theron delivers a strong, captivating performance as Aeon Flux, embodying the character’s cool confidence and mysterious edge. Visually, the movie shines, with a stunningly realised futuristic world that captures the essence of the series while giving it a sleek, cinematic feel.

Aeon Flux has been transferred to 4k in 2160p and Blu-ray in 1080p, presented in the original aspect ratio of 2.39:1. The audio options are English DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and Dolby Digital 5.1 in French and Spanish. Finally, there are subtitles in English, French and Spanish. The 4k features the Ultra HD copy of the film, while the Blu-ray has an HD copy of the film and the following bonus features:
