‘Scissors’ Review (Tubi)
Stars: Jill Kassidy, Avery Jane, Blake Blossom, Tommy Pistol, Lilly Bell, Alex Coal, Katie Morgan, James Bartholet | Written and Directed by Harry Sparks
Directed by Harry Sparks, Scissors is a quirky, low-budget slasher currently available to watch on Tubi. Starring adult film actress Jill Kassidy in a lead role, the film embraces the spirit of old-school horror with a nostalgic, DIY charm. While it doesn’t completely succeed in its ambitions, Scissors still offers enough intrigue and campy fun to entertain fans of indie horror.
The story follows Courtney (Kassidy), a college student and aspiring filmmaker who, along with her friends, decides to spend the night in a supposedly haunted house to make a horror movie. As the night progresses, the group realises that the urban legend they’re playing with might actually be real, and a sinister clown-like figure armed with giant scissors begins stalking them. The plot is simple but has enough twists and eerie atmosphere to keep viewers guessing.
Jill Kassidy delivers a solid performance as Courtney, managing to bring some vulnerability and relatability to her character. While much of the cast is made up of fellow adult film performers like Avery Jane, Blake Blossom, and Tommy Pistol (who plays the menacing clown), they each bring a surprising amount of energy and commitment to their roles. Although some of the dialogue and emotional beats feel awkward, there’s an earnestness in the performances that gives the film a certain rough-edged charm.
Production-wise, Scissors does show its low-budget roots. However, Sparks manages to squeeze out some genuinely stylish moments with creative camera work and a few well-executed suspense scenes. The soundtrack, leaning heavily into retro horror vibes, also helps bolster the atmosphere, making the film feel like a love letter to slashers of the late 70s and early 80s.
What Scissors lacks in polish, it makes up for with heart. It’s clear that the filmmakers had a genuine affection for the genre and wanted to deliver something fun, if not groundbreaking. For viewers willing to forgive its rough edges and embrace its B-movie nature, Scissors can be an enjoyable late-night watch. Even more so if you’re curious about adult film actors transitioning into mainstream roles!
