‘WWE Smackdown’ Review (Oct 4th 2024)

by Phil Wheat

Welcome to this review of this past Friday’s episode of Smackdown, right here on Nerdly. Let’s see what went down on this week’s show…

Match #1: Carmelo Hayes def. AJ Styles

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

The returning AJ Styles suffered an injury mid-match and was unable to continue against Carmelo Hayes. Moments after the bell, United States Champion LA Knight surprised the victorious Superstar with a BFT out of nowhere.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Match #2: Dumpster Match – Michin def. Chelsea Green

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

With no disqualifications and no count-outs, Michin’s Dumpster Match against Chelsea Green incorporated Kendo sticks, trash cans, metal trays, trash bags, and so much more. In the final moments, Michin dodged a charging Piper Niven, who flew into the side of the dumpster. She then drove Green off the ring apron and through a table set up on top of the dumpster before closing the lid for the win.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #3: Naomi def. Tiffany Stratton

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

In a hard-hitting matchup, Naomi made Tiffany Stratton Feel the Glow with a quick pinfall for the win.

My Score: 2 out of 5

Match #4: WWE Tag Team Championship Triple Threat Ladder Match – The Bloodline def. The Street Profits and #DIY

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

At the culmination of an extraordinarily unrelenting WWE Tag Team Championship Triple Threat Ladder Match, The Street Profits and #DIY drove each other off the ladder and through two other ladders while battling to grab the titles. This opened the doors for WWE Tag Team Champions Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa to climb the rungs and seize the gold for a successful title defense.

My Score: 3.5 out of 5

Final Verdict: 2.5/5

A bit of a comedown for Smackdown this week – between the weird AJ Styles injury angle (I’m assuming it’s an angle NOT a real injury) taking the steam out of what was, for the most part, a great match; and the lacklustre Bailey/Jax/Stratton stuff leading to an OK match between Stratton and Naomi the bad almost… almost, outweighed the good. Thankfully the main event delivered some great action but the real star of the show this week was Chelsea Green – her match against Michin was fantastic and the promo/backstage segment with Piper Niven (who herself was a shining light in the same match) was one of the funniest and best of the year!
