‘Friday Night Smackdown’ Review (Mar 29th 2024)

by Phil Wheat

Welcome to this review of this past Friday’s episode of Friday Night Smackdown, right here on Nerdly. Let’s see what went down on this week’s show!

Match #1: Pretty Deadly def. Randy Orton & Kevin Owens

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Just one week before their Triple Threat Match with United States Champion Logan Paul at WrestleMania, Randy Orton and Kevin Owens teamed up once again, this time facing Pretty Deadly. Just as KO and Orton were rolling, Paul slithered from underneath the ring, hitting KO in the jaw with the brass knuckles and allowing Pretty Deadly to capture the victory.

My Score: 2 out of 5

Match #2: Austin Theory & Grayson Waller def. The Street Profits

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

The Street Profits opened the match like a house on fire as Angelo Dawkins sent Grayson Waller flying into the announce table with a massive tackle. As Montez Ford and Dawkins looked ready to book their tickets to WrestleMania, Karrion Kross and Scarlett attacked Bobby Lashley and B-Fab backstage. This distraction allowed Waller and Austin Theory to capitalize, sending them to WrestleMania. After the match, AOP and the rest of The Final Testament came down to inflict further punishment.

My Score: 2 out of 5

Match #3: New Catch Republic def. Legado del Fantasma

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Still reeling from being attacked by The LWO, Angel and Berto tried to contend with Tyler Bate and Pete Dunne. Despite feeling less than 100 percent, Angel and Berto dropped Bate with a huge body slam from the top rope. New Catch Republic won with a double Tyler Driver ‘97, ensuring their place at WrestleMania.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Match #4: Bianca Belair def. Dakota Kai

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Bianca Belair dominated Dakota Kai for most of the match, but Kai got herself back into the contest with a scorpion kick. The continued attempts at kicks from Kai eventually backfired as Belair moved out of the way, sending Kai’s knee straight into the ring post. Moments later, The EST hoisted Kai up to drop her with a K.O.D., earning the victory. As soon as the match ended, the rest of Damage CTRL hit the ring to beat down Belair. Naomi came down to help Bianca, but the pair was overwhelmed. That is, until Jade Cargill stormed the ring to take out Damage CTRL singlehandedly.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Final Verdict: 2/5

If you were looking for promos and a build to Wrestlemania through drama, storylines and lots of talking then this week’s Smackdown is for you. However, if you want some WRESTLING with your soap opera level drama, this week’s Smackdown was NOT for you! Me? I’m definitely in the latter camp. It’s seems Friday night was no one’s best night this week!
