‘WWE Raw’ Review (Dec 4th 2023)

by Phil Wheat

Welcome to this review of this past Monday’s episode of WWE Raw, right here on Nerdly… Let’s see what went down on this week’s show!

Match #1: Drew McIntyre def. Sami Zayn

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

With a new aggression and cunning streak, Drew McIntyre battled Sami Zayn in an electric opening contest. Zayn appeared to have suffered an injury after limping gingerly on his leg, and McIntyre relentlessly hit Zayn with spinebusters and powerbombs. With Zayn unable to stand on his injured leg, McIntyre leveled Zayn with a blow to the back of the knee before blasting Zayn with the Claymore to pick up the victory.

My Score: 3.5 out of 5

Match #2: Nia Jax def. Shayna Baszler

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Nia Jax continued her domination, dismantling Shayna Baszler in a spirited contest. Baszler locked in the Kirifuda Clutch, but Jax planted Baszler with the Annihilator to emerge victorious. After the match, Jax was confronted by Becky Lynch.

My Score: 2 out of 5

Match #3: 2-out-of-3 Falls Match – #DIY def. Imperium

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Needing to get two pinfalls to emerge victorious, #DIY battled Imperium. Despite looking great in the opening stages, Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa fell to Imperium for the first fall. The second fall went to #DIY after Ciampa rolled up Giovanni Vinci out of nowhere. With the last fall on the line, the two teams wowed the WWE Universe with blitzing moves and out-of-this-world moonsaults. After missing Meeting in the Middle on two previous attempts, Gargano and Ciampa connected on the third try, earning the decisive fall on Ludwig Kaiser. The conflict between Kaiser and Vinci reared its ugly head once more, with the two verbally sparring after the match.

My Score: 3.5 out of 5

Match #4: Kayden Carter & Katana Chance def. Tegan Nox & Natalya

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

With WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Chelsea Green and Piper Niven providing guest commentary, Tegan Nox and Natalya looked to get back in the win column by taking on high-risers Kayden Carter and Katana Chance. Carter and Chance tried to go for a high-risk offense move on Natalya, but The Queen of Harts was dispatched both with a double powerbomb from the top rope. Carter and Chance won after they hit an awesome splash onto Natalya.

My Score: 1.5 out of 5

Match #5: The Creed Brothers def. “Dirty” Dominik Mysterio & JD McDonagh

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

After becoming No. 1 Contenders’ to The Judgment Day’s Undisputed WWE Tag Team Titles, The Creed Brothers took on Judgment Day members “Dirty” Dominik Mysterio and JD McDonagh. Julius Creed lit up the WWE Universe with his superb delayed vertical suplex just as R-Truth made his way down to ringside, attempting to rally The Judgment Day. After launching Mysterio into Michael Cole and Wade Barrett’s lap at commentary, The Creed Brothers capped off the dominant win with the Brutus Ball on McDonagh.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Match #6: World Heavyweight Championship – Seth “Freakin” Rollins def. Jey Uso

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Dedicating this match to his late uncle Umaga, Jey Uso challenged World Heavyweight Champion Seth “Freakin” Rollins. Uso paid homage to his late uncle, hitting an Umaga-like splash in the corner, but The Visionary bounced back with a top-rope splash. After a huge Uso Splash, “Main Event” Jey looked prime to win his first world title, but Rollins kicked out. A scintillating one-two-three punch of superplex, Falcon Arrow, Pedigree from Rollins to Uso almost spelled the end for Uso, but he too kicked out. Rollins missed a Stomp, with Uso following up with a Spear, but the World Heavyweight Champion refused to surrender. Uso then stacked a Spear with an Uso Splash after Rollins missed the Buckle Bomb, but once again Rollins kept the fight going. Evading a third Spear, Rollins caught Uso with a Pedigree before adding the Stomp to retain the title.

My Score: 4 out of 5

Final Score: 3.5/5

Some surprisingly good matches this week on Raw, with the veterans of WWE really giving it their all – Drew and Sami kicking ass in the opener, #DIY and Imperium giving other tag teams a masterclass, and then Seth and Jey really taking things to the next level with what is one of the best main events on Raw in weeks. I’ve got to say it, this was a particularly great week for Raw!
