‘WWE NXT: Halloween Havoc – Week One’ Review

by Phil Wheat

Welcome to this week’s review of NXT, right here on Nerdly. This is week one of the Halloween Havoc special(s), so let’s get straight into it and see what went down in this episode…

Match #1: Devil’s Playground Match – Roxanne Perez def. Kiana James

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Wearing Freddy Krueger inspired ring gear, Roxanne Perez channeled her inner demons to conquer Kiana James in a Devil’s Playground Match. Weapons and chaos engulfed the ringside area as playground equipment was used in the most unholiest of ways, paving the way for Perez to hit a Pop Rox on the outside to pick up the victory.

My Score: 2 out of 5

Match #2: Lexis King def. Dante Chen

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Lexis King has arrived in NXT in grand fashion as he impressively dispatched of Dante Chen. King was on fire throughout the match, showing off his famous pedigree while creating a new name for himself, and he stunned Chen and the NXT Universe with an incredible twisting DDT.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Match #3: Kelani Jordan def. Arianna Grace

Kelani Jordan punched her ticket to the Finals of the NXT Women’s Breakout Tournament after defeating Arianna Grace with a scintillating split legged moonsault.

My Score: 2 out of 5

Match #4: NXT Tag Team Championships – Chase U def. Tony D’Angelo & Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo

Gold is coming to Chase U as Andre Chase and Duke Hudson defeated Tony D and Stacks to become the new NXT Tag Team Champions. Chase U’s newest student, Jacy Jayne, proved to be the difference as her interference gave Hudson enough time to roll up D’Angelo for the win.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #5: Lights Out Match – Blair Davenport def. Gigi Dolin

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Blair Davenport knocked Gigi Dolin’s lights out with a Falcon Arrow through a table and brutal knee in their hard-hitting Lights Out Match.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #6: Lola Vice def. Karmen Petrovic

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Lola Vice continues to impress as she advanced to the Finals of the NXT Women’s Breakout Tournament thanks to a vicious head kick.

My Score: 1.5 out of 5

Match #7: NXT Women’s Championship – Lyra Valkyria def. Becky Lynch

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

The Lyra Valkyria era has officially begun as the Irish Superstar defeated her idol, Becky Lynch, to capture the gold. Valkyria won the title in incredible fashion as she countered the Man Handle Slam, sending the NXT Universe into a frenzy.

My Score: 4 out of 5

Final Verdict: 3.5/5

This week’s special edition on NXT was 100% saved by the two title matches – the tag match was a surprising amount of fun and the win, for me, was honestly a shock. But not as much as the women’s title match. Lyra Valkyria stood toe-to-toe with the man and won. WON! Kudos to Becky Lynch for putting Lyra over and literally making her. Shame the rest of the card couldn’t match up to those two matches…
