Friday Night Smackdown – Oct 6th 2023: Results & Review

by Phil Wheat

Welcome to this review of this past Friday’s episode of Friday Night Smackdown, right here on Nerdly. Let’s see what went down on this week’s episode!

Match #1: Charlotte Flair & Asuka def. IYO SKY & Bayley

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

One night before WWE Fastlane, Charlotte Flair gained the pinfall victory during her and Asuka’s match against WWE Women’s Champion IYO SKY and Bayley. At WWE Fastlane, SKY is set to defend her WWE Women’s Championship against Flair and Asuka in a Triple Threat Match and looks to be on shaky ground, as she and her partner Bayley came up short. The four Superstars balled out, with SKY taking out everyone in a tremendous Tower of Doom that left everyone down. Even though Flair had accidentally booted Asuka in the face, she still came away with the win after a Natural Selection on SKY.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Match #2: Bobby Lashley def. Rey Mysterio

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

In a frenetic back-and-forth match, it wasn’t long before Bobby Lashley attacked Santos Escobar, eventually leading to a brawl between The Street Profits and The LWO at ringside. With Mysterio distracted by the melee, Lashley hit an almighty Spear to win the match. Lashley and The Street Profits will take on Mysterio and two other members of The LWO at WWE Fastlane in a huge Six-Man Tag Team Match.

My Score: 2 out of 5

Match #3: Dragon Lee def. Austin Theory

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Austin Theory’s mockery of Dragon Lee before the bell was for naught as Lee was all over the braggadocios Superstar. Just as Lee was gaining the upper hand, Grayson Waller made his way down to support his friend Theory. Lee once again showcased his impressive arsenal, countering one of Theory’s moves into a scintillating Tiger Bomb that nearly gave him the win. Despite Lee’s impressive showing, Waller’s presence at ringside allowed him to hit Lee while the referee’s back was turned. Lee was in trouble until Cameron Grimes showed up to even the odds by taking out Waller. This fracas allowed Lee to capitalize and gain the pinfall victory over Theory.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Match #4: LA Knight def. Jimmy Uso (DQ)

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

It was indeed a night for LA Knight as he dispatched Jimmy Uso in SmackDown’s main event, albeit by disqualification. Knight and Uso clobbered each other in a back-and-forth, and Knight was looking great until Solo Sikoa jumped in the ring to hit him with a Samoan Spike for the disqualification

My Score: 2 out of 5

Final Verdict: 2.5/5

For a “go home” show before a pay-per-view this was, frankly, average. There’s nothing in this episode that will get anyone more excited than they are/aren’t for Fastlane. Instead this episode of Smackdown feels like a tease for something better – as if to say “look at these matches, they’ll be better on the PPV” but is that really the case? Especially considering the upcoming pay-per-view is C-tier like Fastlane! Though it’s clear from this episode that LA Knight is definitely on a high in the company, and that he’s not going to lose his match at Fastlane – which means that any interest in that match is gone! Thanks WWE.
