‘Impact Wrestling’ Review (Oct 5th 2023)

by Phil Wheat

Welcome to this week’s review of Impact Wrestling, which this week opens with a Before the Impact match that saw Savannah Evans defeat Jessicka. Let’s get into the review…

Match #1: Tasha Steelz def. Killer Kelly

The following is courtesy of impactwrestling.com:

After forming an alliance with Deonna Purrazzo, Tasha Steelz looks to make a statement against one half of the Knockouts World Tag Team Champions, Killer Kelly! Steelz gains the early advantage with a draping DDT, spiking Kelly on the floor. Slamovich comes to Kelly’s aid on the outside but Steelz makes her pay with a baseball slide dropkick. Back in the ring, Steelz hits Kelly with a pump kick for two. Steelz locks in a Camel Clutch but Kelly fights free. Kelly builds momentum with a series of clotheslines, followed by a headbutt. Kelly hits the hesitation dropkick in the corner for a near fall of her own. Kelly catches Steelz with a sleeper in mid-air. Deonna Purrazzo appears at ringside and pulls the referee out of the ring. Steelz capitalizes with the Blackout on Kelly to win.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #2: Jake Something, Dirty Dango, Champagne Singh, Eric Young & Jordynne Grace def. Brian Myers, Shera, KiLynn King, Jody Threat & Bully Ray

The following is courtesy of impactwrestling.com:

The winning team will face off against each other next week in a 5-way match to determine the #1 and #20 entrants in the Call Your Shot Gauntlet at Bound For Glory! Singh and Shera are on opposite teams tonight as Young prevents them from working together. Alpha Bravo provides a distraction, allowing Dango to blindside Threat. Bravo chokes Threat on the outside, then tosses her back in the ring. Threat gets her boot up before making the tag to Myers. Grace powers up Myers for a big vertical suplex. Grace squares off with Bully but he gains control with a powerslam. Young is headed to the top but Shera trips him up. Grace connects with a Spinebuster on Threat. Grace counters a Neutralizer attempt from King, then makes the tag to Something. The pace quickens as Something sends Bully crashing off the top rope to the floor. The match begins to break down as Something attacks his own partners, Dango and Singh. Something sends Shera Into the Void to win.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #3: Fan’s Revenge Match – ABC (Ace Austin & Chris Bey) def John Skyler & Jai Vidal

The following is courtesy of impactwrestling.com:

John Skyler must pay for sins of The Good Hands as he and Jai Vidal battle ABC in the return of Fan’s Revenge! Fans surround the ring with leather straps in-hand and can assault the competitors if they are thrown to the outside. Bey quickly sends Skyler to the floor as a fan whips him in the back. Then Bey is tossed to the outside but the fans choose not to whip him. Skyler stops one fan from whipping him but gets blindsided by someone else. Bey launches himself off the back of Austin, taking out Skyler with a back elbow in the corner. Vidal is the next competitor to get whipped. Moments later, Vidal distracts the referee, allowing Skyler to hang up Austin on the ropes. Austin bounces back with a springboard kick to Vidal. Skyler gets whipped all around the ringside area until he steals one of their whips. Bey soars over the top rope, colliding with Skyler on the outside. Back in the ring, ABC hit the 1, 2 Sweet on Skyler to win.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #4: Moose def. Bhupinder Gujjar

The following is courtesy of impactwrestling.com:

With an IMPACT World Title opportunity in his possession, Moose refocuses on singles competition against Bhupinder Gujjar! Moose hits two strong Irish whips into the corner. Moose hits a Uranage but Gujjar avoids the follow-up spear. Moose quickly shuts down his momentum with a big clothesline, followed by a thunderous powerbomb. Moose hits the spear to win.

My Score: 0 out of 5

Match #5: Josh Alexander def. Kon

The following is courtesy of impactwrestling.com:

IMPACT World Champion Alex Shelley joins Tom Hannifan and Matthew Rehwoldt on commentary for tonight’s main event! The bell rings and Alexander immediately goes for the Ankle Lock. Kon quickly fights him off but Alexander takes Kon off his feet with a diving shoulder block from the top. Kon runs through Alexander with a running splash. Deaner trips up Alexander from the outside, allowing Kon to turn the tide with a Spinebuster. Alexander tries to wear the big man down with an Abdominal Stretch but Kon launches him into the ropes. Alexander uses the momentum of Kon against him as he hits an explosive German suplex. Alexander crashes and burns on a Moonsault attempt, allowing Kon to follow up with a sit-down powerbomb for two. Alexander has Kon on his shoulders but inadvertently takes out the referee in the process. Deaner is about to hit Alexander with a steel chair but Shelley pries it out of his hands. Deaner ducks, causing Alexander to strike Shelley at ringside. Back in the ring, Alexander counters a Chokeslam into the Ankle Lock. Alexander hits the C4 Spike to win.

My Score: 3.5 out of 5

Final Verdict: 3/5

Another solid week of wrestling from Impact. I didn’t appreciate the Moose squash match as I don’t think Moose, even under current storyline situations, needs to be squashing anyone, we KNOW he’s a tough badass already. There was also a lot of build to Bound For GLory this week to, with matches, promos etc. all dovetailing into new stories, new feuds and new matches. One thing that did surprise me thought this week… I never expected Kon to main event Impact against Josh Alexander!
