‘WWE Raw’ Review (Jun 19th 2023)

by Phil Wheat

Welcome to this review of this past Monday’s episode of WWE Raw, right here on Nerdly… Let’s see what went down on this week’s show!

Match #1: Tommaso Ciampa def. The Miz

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

After the Miz was unable to answer Seth “Freakin” Rollins’ open challenge, he issued one of his own. That call was answered by a returning Tommaso Ciampa, who scored a huge victory over the The A-Lister with the Fairytale Ending!

My Score: 2 out of 5

Match #2: Katana Chance & Kayden Carter def. Chelsea Green & Sonya Deville

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

After a backstage altercation last week, up-and-comers Katana Chance & Kayden Carter overcame the outspoken Chelsea Green & Sonya Deville with the Afterparty.

My Score: 1.5 out of 5

Match #3: Indus Sher def. Cedric Alexander & Shelton Benjamin

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

An attack by Indus Sher on Cedric Alexander & Shelton Benjamin prior to their scheduled match two weeks ago led to a tag team showdown. After disposing Alexander, the dominant tandem reigned supreme over Benjamin.

My Score: 1.5 out of 5

Match #4: Matt Riddle def. Ludwig Kaiser

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

The Original Bro continued his explosive rivalry with Imperium when he defeated Ludwig Kaiser with the Bro Derek. As the dust was clearing, however, Intercontinental Champion Gunther and Kaiser launched a brutal post-match attack on Riddle, which resulted in a leg injury to their adversary.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #5: The Viking Raiders def. Alpha Academy

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Although Maxine delivered a painful suplex to an interfering Valhalla at ringside, the commotion allowed Erik to gain the advantage on Chad Gable to pick up the victory for The Viking Raiders.

My Score: 2 out of 5

Match #6: Trish Stratus def. Raquel Rodriguez (DQ)

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

After Zoey Stark interfered in the match between Raquel Rodriguez and WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus, Becky Lynch emerged to take out Stark at ringside. When Trish Stratus got involved in the scuffle, though, The Man attacked her as well and inadvertently gave her adversary the win by disqualification. With the victory, Trish Stratus qualified for Money in the Bank Ladder Match.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Match #7: Bronson Reed def. Shinsuke Nakamura

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Ricochet got tangled up in Shinsuke Nakamura’s match against Bronson Reed. When The One and Only climbed on the apron, The King of Strong Style accidently took him out with the Kinshasa. In the process, Reed gained the advantage and took down his opponent with the Tsunami.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #8: Cody Rhodes, Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn def. The Judgment Day

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

In the final moments of a Raw main event, Sami Zayn blasted Dominik Mysterio with the Helluva Kick, and KO followed up with the Stunner. Seconds later, The American Nightmare hit a Cody Cutter on Damian Priest to give the trio a huge win over The Judgment Day.

My Score: 3.5 out of 5

Final Verdict: 2.5/5

This week’s Raw started off badly, with poor Tomasso Ciampa forced to face The Miz of all people for his return match and then a bunch of just, just, a smidge more than squash matches. Not a great start at all. Things picked up with the Riddle/Ludwig match before finally hitting its stride with the final two matches of the night. Speaking of matches, I was blown away by the fact we got eight, EIGHT, matches on this week’s show, something that hasn’t happened in a looooong time! I can totally appreciate that even if the matches weren’t all up to par.
