‘AEW Dark: Elevation – Episode 109’ Review
Welcome back to another review of AEW Dark: Elevation, which features seven matches this week. In a change-up this week, we’ve got Tony Schiavone and Matt Menard on commentary. So let’s get into the review!
Match #1: Action Andretti def. Nick Comoroto
My Thoughts: If it wasn’t for the fact Action Andretti is on a hot streak you would have expected Nick Comoroto to pick up the easy win, especially considering the size difference. But no, instead Andretti held his own against the big man and there were a number of near falls which amped up the excitement. Eventually Andretti hit a Victory Roll for the 3 count.
My Score: 2.5 out of 5
Match #2: Skye Blue def. Angelica Risk
My Thoughts: Skye Blue gave up way too much to Risk – especially considering BLue is no veteran like Emi Sakura, who can out on these kinds of matches where enhancement talent is given a chance to shine. In Skye Blue’s case, she should have been waaaay more dominant.
My Score: 2 out of 5
Match #3: Gates of Agony (Toa Liona and Bishop Kaun) def. Leonis and Maximus
My Thoughts: Now this was the kind of dominant match I meant when talking about Skye Blue’s match. The Gates of Agony were in control of most of this match, though it was surprising to see Leonis get a pin on Toa, though only for a measly 1 count.
My Score: 1 out of 5
Match #4: Julia Hart def. Kelsey Heather
My Thoughts: Former cheerleader turned badass b*tch Jukia Hart takes on Kelsey Heather, who opens the match pretending to be a cheerleader! Hart let Heather get a couple of moves in but otherwise this was a dominant squash from Hart – as it should be given her affiliation with Malakai Black and co,
My Score: 1 out of 5
Match #5: Kip Sabian def. Leon Ruffin
My Thoughts: This didn’t get the crowd riled up and so unfortunately fell a little flat, and then it went a little long too which only added to the veritable feast of things working against the match. That’s not to say there was anything wrong with the actual in-ring action, both Sabin and Ruffin put in great work. Just this time round the audience didn’t appreciate it.
My Score: 2 out of 5
Match #6: Lance Archer def. Bryce Cannon
My Thoughts: In a surprise turn of events, Bryce Cannon managed to stand toe-to-toe with Lance Archer… I’m kidding! Nope. This was exactly what you’d expect, Lance Archer beat Cannon within an inch of his life in the kind of squash match we expect from Archer. Though I do wish he’d get some decent opponents sometime soon!
My Score: 1 out of 5
Match #7: The Gunns (Austin and Colten) def. The Infantry (Shawn Dean and Carlie Bravo)
My Thoughts: I’ve been a fan of the tag team of Shawn Dean and Carlie Bravo ever since the pandemic-era of AEW wrestling, back in Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, Florida. So I was glad to see them wrestling in Ring of Honor and to see them here is even better! Shame they had to face The Gunns in this one, a team who The Infantry woud run rings around in real life. Shame wrestling isn’t real lmao.
