‘WWE NXT’ Review (Mar 21st 2023)
Welcome to this week’s review of NXT, right here on Nerdly. Let’s get straight into the review and see what happened this week…
Match #1: Tiffany Stratton def. Indi Hartwell
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Tiffany Stratton punched her ticket to NXT Stand & Deliver thanks to another virtuoso performance, this time downing a very game Indi Hartwell in impressive fashion. The match was fierce, but Stratton brought forward an intensity that Hartwell struggled to match, except for a few key elbows. The end came for Hartwell when she tried a top rope maneuver but Stratton countered, managed to hit a rolling fireman’s carry, and then her Prettiest Moonsault Ever to secure her title opportunity.
My Score: 2.5 out of 5
Match #2: Ilja Dragunov vs. JD McDonagh (No Contest)
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
The bitter feud between Ilja Dragunov and JD McDonagh added another chapter as they battled in one-on-one action, but they couldn’t finish what they started as a huge brawl broke out between them, Dragon Lee, and the NXT North American Champion, Wes Lee. After the match, Wes Lee revealed that both Dragunov and McDonagh would challenge for his title at NXT Stand & Deliver.
My Score: 3 out of 5
Match #3: Lyra Valkyria def. Ivy Nile
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
The fourth spot for the NXT Women’s Championship Ladder Match at NXT Stand & Deliver was filled as Lyra Valkyria used her innovative offense to take down Diamond Mine’s Ivy Nile. Nile, just one week removed from being betrayed by Tatum Paxley, put up a valiant effort, even locking in a dragon sleeper that nearly put Valkyria out. However, The Irish Superstar managed to counter it by flipping off the ropes and hitting a devastating head kick to secure her spot at NXT Stand & Deliver.
My Score: 1 out of 5
Match #4: Bron Breakker & Carmelo Hayes def. Pretty Deadly
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Before facing each other for the NXT Championship at Stand & Deliver, Bron Breakker and Carmelo Hayes teamed up to take down the hosts of Stand & Deliver, Pretty Deadly. Breakker and Hayes clearly don’t see eye to eye, but managed to put their differences aside as Breakker saved Hayes numerous times from the dastardly Elton Prince & Kit Wilson. The two main eventers of Stand & Deliver even showed off some tandem offense of their own with Breakker launching Hayes right at Pretty Deadly in stunning fashion. Both Prince & Wilson used their tag team symmetry to keep it close, but a double knees to the face from Hayes, followed immediately by a spear from Breakker and ultimately a Nothing But Net clinched the win for the unlikely duo.
My Score: 3 out of 5
Final Verdict: 3/5
Another OK week for NXT, but hey… At least these guys are building towards their next PPV across the board and not just focussing on what will be the headline match. That’s more than Raw and Smackdown feel like they’re doing right now! Two great matches marked this show, even if one of them ended in a dusty finish! Even the women delivered this week with a decent opening match. Shame the second women’s match was a squash though…
