Friday Night Smackdown – Mar 17th 2023: Results & Review

by Phil Wheat

Welcome to this review of this past Friday’s episode of Friday Night Smackdown, right here on Nerdly. Let’s see what went down on the show!

Match #1: Dominik Mysterio & Rhea Ripley def. Santos Escobar & Zelina Vega

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

When order broke down in the Mixed Tag Team Match and Santos Escobar was taken out of action, Zelina Vega knocked Dominik Mysterio out of the squared circle. Unfortunately, she made the mistake of turning her back on Rhea Ripley, who hit her opponent with Riptide for the victory. After the bell, Dominik began to once more trash talk his dad. In response, Rey Mysterio interrupted Dominik with some emotional words as he made it clear he will never fight his son at WrestleMania or anywhere else.

My Score: 2 out of 5

Match #2: Liv Morgan & Raquel Rodriguez def. Tegan Nox & Emma

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Moments after the announcement that there would be a WrestleMania Showcase Match, Liv Morgan hit Tegan Knox with Code Red to take her out of action. Raquel Rodriguez then hit Emma with the Tahana Bomb and paved the way for Morgan to finish her opponent with Oblivion. With their huge victory, Raquel Rodriguez and Liv Morgan punch their ticket to the Showcase Match at The Showcase of the Immortals!

My Score: 1.5 out of 5

Match #3: Xavier Woods def. LA Knight

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

LA Knight is still extremely bothered that he doesn’t a match when WrestleMania Goes Hollywood. But all the frustration in the world didn’t stop him for being defeated by The New Day’s Xavier Woods with the Back Woods.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Match #4: Drew McIntyre vs. Sheamus (No Contest)

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

During their fierce battle for an Intercontinental Championship Match at WrestleMania, Drew McIntyre and Sheamus smashed into Gunther. In response, The Ring General attacked both Superstars and brought an end to the matchup. As a result, WWE Official Adam Pearce determined that both McIntyre and Sheamus will challenge the Intercontinental Champion at The Showcase of the Immortals.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Final Verdict: 2.5/5

We’re still taking the average road for Smackdown and STILL relying on the Sami Zayn/KO/Bloodline story to carry the entire show. And we’re on the road to Wrestlemania for god’s sake! The Main event of this week’s show was good but that’s about it TBH.
