Friday Night Smackdown – Feb 24th 2023: Results & Review
Welcome to this review of this past Friday’s episode of Friday Night Smackdown, right here on Nerdly. Let’s see what went down on the show!
Match #1: Imperium def. Braun Strowman, Ricochet and Madcap Moss
The following of courtesy of wwe.com:
There was plenty of recent history brought into the ring, as Braun Strowman, Ricochet & Madcap Moss set out for some payback against Gunther, Ludwig Kaiser & Giovanni Vinci. After a chaotic back-and-forth, the Intercontinental Champion and The Monster Among Men stood toe-to-toe in the ring trading chops and punches. Gunther closed the door with a vicious Powerbomb to Moss with Drew McIntyre watching at ringside. The Viking Raiders took exception to The Scottish Warrior’s presence and ignited a wild brawl after the match.
My Score: 3 out of 5
Match #2: Kofi Kingston def. LA Knight
The following of courtesy of wwe.com:
After LA Knight promised to provide WrestleMania with an “LA Knight Moment” in Hollywood, The New Day crashed his party as Kofi Kingston explained what it really takes to earn glory on The Grandest Stage of Them All. Kingston and Knight threw down in an impromptu match with Xavier Woods playing the soundtrack from the outside. Knight countered a Trouble in Paradise with a thunderous slam, but his preoccupation with Woods’ trombone ended up playing the wrong note as a distraction allowed the former WWE Champion to connect on the decisive second effort.
My Score: 2.5 out of 5
Match #3: Shayna Baszler def. Natalya
The following of courtesy of wwe.com:
A heated exchange on social media led to Natalya defying doctor’s orders to get herself medically cleared to take on Shayna Baszler. Tegan Nox offered to watch The B.O.A..T.’s back in the ongoing battle with Baszler & Ronda Rousey. Natalya fought valiantly in search of a gutsy win, but The Submission Magician reigned supreme by countering a Sharpshooter to force a tapout. Rousey & Baszler looked to launch a post-match assault, but Nox made a statement with a swift knockdown of The Baddest Woman on the Planet.
My Score: 2 out of 5
Match #4: Karrion Kross def. Rey Mysterio:
The following of courtesy of wwe.com:
The Ultimate Underdog was cooking early with a mix of speed and high-flying offense. Then, Dominik Mysterio rolled in and intercepted a 619, allowing Karrion Kross to steal a victory over Rey Mysterio with a Kross Jacket. Finally fed up with his son’s disrespect, The Legendary Luchador punched Dominik after the match and left his son in utter disbelief.
My Score: 2.5 out of 5
Final Verdict: 2.5/5
Well that was a rather average episode of Smackdown. The opening match was good but not great and the rest of the show coasted along until this week’s show ended with another Sami and the Bloodline promo – something which looks like will continue to carry Smackdown until Wrestlemania at least. This week’s show is skippable for most folks IMHO.
