‘WWE Raw’ Review (Sept 5th 2022)

by Phil Wheat

Welcome to this review of this week’s Monday Night Raw, right here on Nerdly. This is the first post-Clash at the Castle episode of WWE and so we’re going to get some of the fallout from what happened at the PPV… So let’s get into the review!

Match #1: Braun Strowman interrupted Fatal 4-Way Tag Team Match

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

A Fatal 4-Way Tag Team Match to determine new challengers for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions The Usos got turned on its head when Braun Strowman made his bellowing return to WWE! The match, which featured The New Day, Alpha Academy, Los Lotharios and The Street Profits, came to a screeching halt when The Monster Among Men burst onto the scene and began brutalizing everyone in sight. In what resembled a car wreck on I-95, as Strowman wreaked havoc on all competitors as the WWE Universe came unglued. After laying wasted to everyone, Strowman ascended the ropes and raised his arms as the WWE Universe roared in approval.

My Score: 0 out of 5

Match #2: Raquel Rodriguez & Aliyah def. Nikki A.S.H. & Doudrop

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Newly minted WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Raquel Rodriguez & Aliyah had their first test as a championship team when they faced Nikki A.S.H. & Doudrop. Rodriguez and Aliyah were dominant and pulled off the win after Rodriguez hit a huge Tejana Bomb from the top rope. This left another loss on the column for Nikki & Doudrop, who were later seen arguing backstage.

My Score: 1 out of 5

Match #3: Kevin Owens def. Austin Theory

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Austin Theory did not take kindly to Kevin Owens’ prediction that Theory would never successfully cash in his Money in the Bank contract. In an impromptu bout, KO claimed the upper hand with a cannonball and a frog splash to the outside. KO’s first attempt at the swanton left The Prizefighter reeling as Theory put his knees up. His second attempt was successful, and KO soon emerged victorious with the Pop-up Powerbomb and a Stunner.

My Score: 3.5 out of 5

Match #4: Damian Priest def. Rey Mysterio

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Earlier in the evening, Rey Mysterio challenged any member of The Judgment Day to a match, which Damian Priest accepted. Unfortunately for Rey, his family problems continued to get worse as his son Dominik was in the corner of The Judgment Day. Priest was in control most of the match, but The Master of the 619 kept getting back up, showing his love for his son with every comeback. Dominik rubbed salt in the wounds of his father by stopping Rey from performing the 619, leading to Priest snatching the victory with a South of Heaven.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Match #5: Steel Cage Match for the United States Championship – Bobby Lashley def. The Miz

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

With Tommaso Ciampa by his side, The Miz was supremely confident, as a steel cage would offer the best chance to ward off Dexter Lumis. The Miz and Ciampa attacked Lashley before the bell, sending Lashley into the steel cage and slamming the ring steps into the arm of The All Mighty. After the initial beatdown, however, Lashley dominated the match, planting Miz again and again. The Miz rallied after an attempted Spear by Lashley was thwarted, allowing Miz to drop Lashley with the Skull-Crushing Finale for a close two-count. The cage door played a role, as it was used to deadly affect on both Ciampa and Lashley. As Miz was climbing down the cage, Lumis appeared under the ring, leading to Lashley delivering a brutal Spear that finished off The Miz. After the match, Dexter Lumis made his way into the cage, locking The Awesome One in an Arm Triangle and sending The A-Lister to sleep.

My Score: 4 out of 5

News of the Night:

  1. Dominik Mysterio aligned with The Judgment Day

Final Verdict: 3/5

Well it’s safe to say this episode built to the main event. I say built but the only way was up from that terrible first non-match and then the risible Women’s Tag Team match. Thankfully Kevin Owens was reliable as ever and even The Miz put up one hell of a fight against Lashley, really stepping up his game – as he typically does when the WWE need him to! The Edge/Mysterio/Judgement Day story continued this week too, with Rey’s son turning to the “dark side”… Wonder how long this will drag out for now?
