Friday Night Smackdown – Apr 2nd 2021: Results & Review

by Nathan Favel

Welcome to this week’s Friday Night SmackDown review, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and Easter is in danger. The eggs of Jesus have been purloined by the silver loined fiend, Dick Head. Dick…Head. Dick…Head. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!! Dick Head stole the eggs of Jesus. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!! Dick Head crucified the holy scrambled eggs! I bet he stole the eggs of Jesus so he could… Jesus: Stop it! I don’t lay eggs! Dick Head: Quit making fun of my name! Jesus: What’s your name? Dick Head: Dick Head! Jesus: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!! Dick Head: Don’t make fun of me! Me and Jesus: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!! Me: SmackDown starts now!

Match #1: Robert Roode, Dolph Ziggler and Alpha Academy def. Rey Mysterio, Dominik Mysterio and The Street Profits

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

One week before the SmackDown Tag Team Title Fatal 4-Way Match, Otis pinned Montez Ford with the Splash off the second rope to earn a valuable win for himself and Chad Gable heading into a special WrestleMania edition of SmackDown.

The Score: 5 out of 10

  • The Good: You get some moves and some spots and Rey Mysterio, so that’s nice Calvin.
  • The Bad: There’s a lot of talent in here, but that talent never got a chance to shine amidst the booking limiting the length and quality of the action.
  • The Verdict: It’s a shame that this match was so stunted, because it could have had a lot of growth. Oh God. Did I just say that? Dick Head: Who’s the dickhead now, dickhead?! Me: You? Dick Head: Yeah…s—t.

Match #2: Natalya def. Shayna Baszler

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Natalya scored a huge victory over Shayna Baszler with a small package as she looks to get herself and Tamina closer to earning an opportunity at the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles. After the matchup, bedlam ensued when a post-match brawl broke out between the tandems of Shayna & Nia Jax, Natalya & Tamina, The Riott Squad, Mandy Rose & Dana Brooke and Naomi & Lana.

The Score: 1 out of 10

  • The Good: Shayna moved.
  • The Bad: They didn’t do anything.
  • The Verdict: How do you let these guys go a minute? Whose asshole idea was this?

Match #3: Bianca Belair def. Carmella

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Prior to the WrestleMania match between SmackDown Women’s Champion Sasha Banks and Bianca Belair, The EST of WWE overcame Carmella with the K.O.D.in a hard-fought matchup. Although The Boss entered the ring to attempt a sneak attack, Belair proved ready, and the WWE Universe will have to wait for The Showcase of the Immortals.

The Score: 3 out of 10

  • The Good: Both of these fighters had about three minutes to limp from the start to the finish. Belair hardly had a chance to show her stuff.
  • The Bad: That crap above was the good? What’s the bad? Oh…right. No time to wrestle.
  • The Verdict: Isn’t this a two hour show? Why can’t they have a bit more time to wrestle?

Match #4: (Main Event) Daniel Bryan def. Jey Uso – Street Fight Match

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

With Edge joining commentary and Roman Reigns looking on at ringside, The Leader of the “Yes!” Movement made the unhinged Jey Uso tap out in the final moments of a brutal Street Fight. Seconds after the bell, the victorious Leader of the “Yes!” Movement systematically annihilated The Rated-R Superstar and The Head of the Table in a post-match onslaught.

The Score: 7 out of 10

  • The Good: Bryan and Uso smacked the s—t out of each other. This was no walk in the park. I loved how mean this was. Every moment of this was intense and brutal. You never had to worry about what came next. This was a fight from bell to bell. Bryan came across as such a star here. We’re very lucky to have Bryan back. The pace he sets is magnificent and you get the sense of that here.
  • The Bad: Nothing in here was bad, but it wasn’t incredible either.
  • The Verdict: These guys have wrestled each other a half dozen times or more it seems, but that frequency of pairings has made their latest bout so easy to watch. They’ve got the chemistry at this point.

Major News:

  1. Logan Paul will be at WrestleMania as Sami Zayn’s guest.
  2. The Andre The Giant Battle Royal is happening on SmackDown, next week.
  3. The SmackDown Tag Team Title Match is happening on SmackDown, next week.

Final Verdict: 5/10

Apart from the main event, this was a nothing show. I hate saying stuff like that, but not much happened here besides Daniel Bryan winning and brawling with Roman Reigns/Edge.
