by Nathan Favel

Welcome to this week’s Friday Night SmackDown review, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and…oh no…it’s nature’s biggest ass-hole…AN OCTOPUS! Octopus: BLAGALALALALALALAGH!!!! Me: AHHHHHHHH!!!!! Octopusses love to punch fish for no reason…they’re jerks! What are we gonna do? Wait… “Macho Man” Randy Savage: I’m the Macho Man, Rannnnnnnnnndy Savage! I’m gonna get’cha! Yeah! Octopus: BLAGALALALALALALAGH!!!! Randy Savage: History beckons the Macho Man…to kick your leathery ass! Octopus: BLAGALALALALALALAGH!!!! Randy Savage: Cup of coffee, cup of coffee…UP YOUR ASS AND TO…THE LEFT! Me: Well, while Randy Savage and an octopus fight to the death, let’s get started.

Match #1: Shinsuke Nakamura def. Jey Uso

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Last week, Shinsuke Nakamura scored three impressive victories in the Gauntlet Match to determine who would face Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship at Royal Rumble, only to be attacked by The Big Dog and “Main Event” Jey Uso and robbed of his opportunity. As a result, The King of Strong Style went one-on-one with Uso in SmackDown’s opening contest. Before the the bell, Jey took time out to praise The Head of the Table, declare his entry into the Royal Rumble Match and trash talk The Artist. In response, The King of Strong Style did some name calling of his own and stopped an advancing Jey with a single pre-match kick. Nakamura accidently ran headfirst into the ring post, and Uso quickly took full advantage with the pin attempt. When he put his legs on the ropes for leverage, however, the official spotted it and waved off the three-count. An irate Uso began arguing with the ref, giving The Artist the opening to take over and hit a Kinshasa for the win!

My Opinion: 3.9 out of 5

Match #2: Natalya def. Liv Morgan

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

In the wake of The Riott Squad’s recent win over Natalya and Tamina, Liv Morgan went one-on-one with The BOAT. When The Queen of Harts gained the upper hand, an excited (and recently inducted Riott Squad member) Billie Kay left SmackDown commentary to urge Ruby Riott to intercede. As she began excessively cheering, she found herself in Tamina’s way. Panicking, Billie opted to run through the ring to get away. However, the commotion allowed Natalya to roll up her opponent for the quick victory.

My Opinion: 2.7 out of 5

Match #3: King Corbin def. Rey Mysterio

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

After weeks of antagonizing the Mysterio family, including a brutal unprovoked attack in last week’s Gauntlet Match, King Corbin found himself in a match against Rey Mysterio, with Dominik Mysterio joining SmackDown commentary. When Corbin put his hands on Dominik several times during the action, Rey’s son lost his temper and began to charge into the squared circle. The Master of the 619 was forced to hold him back, and the distraction paved the way for Corbin to win with End of Days.

My Opinion: 2.8 out of 5

Match #4: Cesaro def. Daniel Bryan

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

After Daniel Bryan unintentionally angered Cesaro by giving credit to Shinsuke Nakamura, the two competitors went to war in an explosive showdown. In the final moments of their incredible matchup, Cesaro countered Bryan’s Running Knee with an earth-shattering uppercut into the Neutralizer for a huge victory!

My Opinion: 4.1 out of 5

Match #5: Apollo Crews def. Sami Zayn

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

One week after successfully defending his Intercontinental Title against Apollo Crews, Big E joined the SmackDown announce team to watch Crews face off with the outspoken Sami Zayn. Zayn once again showed up with his own documentary crew, tasked with shining light on the conspiracy against him as The Master Strategist has continued to inundate WWE Management with demands for an Intercontinental Title rematch. Meanwhile, Crews was no doubt still reeling from a stern pep talk he received from Paul Heyman on a recent Talking Smack over how he screwed up in his title match against Big E. He was also spotted earlier in the evening having a conversation with Universal Champion Roman Reigns. Regardless of what his talk with The Big Dog entailed, the match result was not uncertain. Crews chose to grab his opponent’s tights and got himself the win at any cost.

My Opinion: 2.8 out of 5

Final Verdict: 3.8/5

Two of the matches were really strong and the rest did their job, so that part of the show was just as it should be. The storyline between Adam Pearce and Roman Reigns… Randy Savage: You son of a bitch! Octopus: BLAGALALALALALALAGH! Randy Savage: You…are so tight. Octopus: MMMMMMMMMMMM. Me: Ummmmmm… Randy Savage: You like it when I rub your ass-hole? Octopus: MMMMMMMMM. Me: Okay…Jonjo…can you cancel that part out of the recordin… Jonjo: Nope! Me: Okay. I’ll just talk really loud. SHINSUKE LOOKED GREAT IN HIS MATCH AGAINST JEY USO, TO THE POINT THAT HE WAS LIKE HE WAS IN NEW JAPAN AGAIN. JEY WAS AN EXCELLENT OPPONENT FOR SHINSUKE ON THIS OCCASION, AS HE WAS NIMBLE AND QUICK, LIKE THAT DUDE AND HIS CANDLE-STICK. LIV AND NATALYA WERE ABLE TO FIT A LOT OF CATCH AND CHAIN IN JUST A FEW MINUTES OF TIME… Randy Savage: I’mma bout to step into your Slim Jim! Dig it?! Octopus: ALGALALALALALALALALA! Me: THERE WAS A BAYLEY TALK SHOW SEGMENT CALLED DING DONG HELLO THAT I DIDN’T CARE ABOUT THAT WAS MEANT TO PUSH THE BIANCA BELAIR FEUD SHE HAS GOING ON RIGHT NOW. GETTING BACK TO THE MATCHES, CESARO AND BRYAN HAD ANOTHER FABULOUS MATCH AGAINST EACH OTHER THAT GAVE CESARO A BIG VICTORY TO PUT HIM BACK INTO THE MIX. IF YOU LIKE SMOOTH WRESTLING THAT COMES COMPLETE WITH ALL THE SELLING IN THE WORLD, THEN YOU SHOULD REALLY CHECK THAT ON OUT. FINALLY, WE HAVE OUR MAIN EVENT, WHICH WAS SHORT, BUT OFFERED APOLLO AND SAMI A CHANCE TO HAVE AT A MATCH THAT WAS INTERSTNG ENOUGH TO… Octopus: ALGLALALALA!!! ALGLALALALALA!!!!! Randy Savage: F—yeah! BALLS DEEP! Me: Ummmmm…this was a good sho…oh…Adam Pearce got himself out of the Universal Title match (after it turned into a Last Man Standing match) and put Kevin Owens in as the new challenger for the Royal Rumble. So…that was nice. Well, it was… Randy Savage: YOU AIN’T GONNA S— RIGHT FOR A WEEK! Octopus: Allalalalalalalalglalglaglaglagla!!!!!! Me: See you next week.
