Friday Night Smackdown – March 6th 2020: Results & Review

by Nathan Favel

Welcome to this week’s SmackDown review, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and we have a big Gauntlet Match to get to, so…

Match #1: Bayley & Sasha Banks def. Naomi & Lacey Evans

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

The unlikely duo of Naomi & Lacey Evans caught Bayley and the returning Sasha Banks last week on Friday Night SmackDown, defeating them in tag team action, but the SmackDown Women’s Champion & The Boss looked to retaliate tonight in this rematch. Naomi received a much-needed tag from Lacey and went on a tear, launching herself over the top rope to wipe out Bayley and pulverizing Sasha with a series of blistering kicks. Naomi went for the split-legged moonsault, but Bayley interfered from the apron, and Sasha took advantage by striking with Meteora to defeat The Glow.

My Opinion: 2.4 out of 5 – Hey, at least Bayley/Sasha Banks won. This wasn’t worth watching. Skip this s—.

Match #2: Sheamus def. Apollo Crews

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Sheamus set his sights on Shorty G & Apollo Crews since returning to the blue brand. Both Superstars have fallen to Sheamus, but Shorty G has attempted to remain positive about the situation, while Crews’ frustrations about not being able to defeat Sheamus have spilled over and resulted in him taking out some of that anger on Shorty G. With yet another opportunity to defeat The Celtic Warrior, Crews used his speed and agility to get the early upper hand on The Celtic Warrior, but Sheamus overpowered Crews and leveled him with a Brogue Kick for the 1-2-3.

My Opinion: 2.1 out of 5 – Hey Uhaa, get the hell out of there.

Match #3: Mandy Rose & Sonya Deville def. Carmella & Dana Brooke

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Mandy Rose and Dolph Ziggler’s relationship has been going well since their Valentine’s Day date, with Sonya Deville fully supporting her friend. Those good vibes carried over to this tag team contest, with Fire & Desire squaring off against Carmella & Dana Brooke. With Dana in control against Sonya, Ziggler caused a distraction at ringside, which allowed Sonya to tag Mandy. Unaware of the tag, Brooke charged Deville, which allowed Mandy to pounce with a wicked running knee to the face to claim the victory for her squad.

My Opinion: 2 out of 5 – You can skip this s— too. This was slow, clumsy and a bad match.

Match #4: (Main Event) Tag Team Gauntlet Match – Winners: Dolph Ziggler & Robert Roode – Winner Enters Last In the Elimination Chamber This Sunday

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

With the opportunity to be the final tandem to enter the Elimination Chamber in a bout for the SmackDown Tag Team Championship, the six teams who will go to war inside the Chamber’s confines battled it out in a heart-pounding Gauntlet Match. New Day and Heavy Machinery kicked off the marathon bout, and Otis and Tucker claimed the win with a thunderous Compactor to Big E. Lucha House party hit the ring like two bolts of lightning, but Otis & Tucker used their incredible strength to finally overpower their highflying foes and take the win. The Usos stalked to the ring and immediately got the upper hand on Heavy Machinery, but Tucker stunned the former SmackDown Tag Team Champions with a rollup to advance! SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Miz and John Morrison had their way with the worn-down Otis and Tucker in the early goings, but Tucker once again shocked his opponent when he rolled up Morrison for the 1-2-3! The infuriated SmackDown Tag Team Champions immediately began hammering away on Tucker before turning their attention to Otis and driving him through the ringside barricade. After flashing a sly smile to Mandy Rose in the backstage area, Dolph Ziggler sauntered to the ring with Robert Roode, looking to pick the bones of Heavy Machinery. With Otis still down at ringside, The Showoff and The Glorious One focused their attacks on the staggered Tucker, who did his best to fend off the two-on-one beatdown. Otis eventually pulled himself back to his feet, slammed Roode face-first into the announce desk, got the tag from Tucker and steamrolled each of his opponents. After Ziggler made a blind tag to become the legal man, however, he clocked Otis in the head with a savage Superkick to score the win and ensure that he and Roode are the last to enter the Elimination Chamber on Sunday!

My Opinion: 3.5 out of 5 – This turned out pretty well, with their being a consistent amount of action the whole time and, with this going for nearly an hour, you’ll get something worth watching once.

News Of The Night:

  1. The Otis/Dolph/Mandy love triangle limps on.
  2. The NWO (Kevin Nash, Scott Hall and Sean Waltman) brawled with Sami Zayn after Braun Strowman came to The NWO’s aid.
  3. Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross want a tag title match against The Kabuki Warriors.
  4. Daniel Bryan fights Drew Gulak at Elimination Chamber.

Final Verdict: 2.9/5

If it wasn’t for the Gauntlet Match, this would be getting a much lower score.
