‘NXT UK’ Review (Feb 27th 2020)

by Nathan Favel

Welcome to this week’s NXT UK review, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and we have Delroy Lindo kissing Rene Russo. Ebony and Ivory…is that a soap from Jet Magazine? Anyway, we’ve got Tim Miller re-booting this into NXT: Dark Fate…Or No Money For New Movie. Wow, these jokes sucked. I think I’ve got acute diarrhea. Welcome to Tyler Perry’s “I’m A Black Guy”.

Match #1: Grizzled Young Veterans def. The Hunt

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

After making some disparaging comments at the expense of Wild Boar & Primate two weeks ago, The Grizzled Young Veterans found themselves in an all-out slugfest against The Hunt. Despite the tag team aggression of their animalistic opponents, the first-ever NXT UK Tag Team Champions rose above and hit Ticket to Mayhem for the three-count.

My Opinion: 3.2 out of 5 – This turned out pretty well. The action was Swift and Taylor, like all wrestling should be. As GYV Miley Cyrus’d the Lana Del Ray out of The Hunt For Red October, an Ed Sheeran was busted out like a Justin Beiber to the back of the Lizzo. Then, like a Nick Jonas to the whole Adam Levine, we got a Blake Shelton to The Hunt For Red October’s Gwen Stefani. Overall, this was a fun Halsey all the way to the John Legend…Kelly Clarkson!

Match #2: Kassius Ohno def. Jack Starz

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Jack Starz demonstrated tremendous speed and strength in his battle against Kassius Ohno, but The Wrestling Genius taught him a lesson in technique when he made his prey tap out to the Kassius Clutch for another impressive win.

My Opinion: 3.1 out of 5 – This was fun, with both guys wrestling a match that was worth the viewing. This wasn’t the masterpiece of a lifetime, but it got the job done and showed the potential of Jack, along with Ohno’s skill.

Match #3: A-Kid def. The Brian Kendrick

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

As captured in a WWE.com Exclusive last week, A-Kid approached The Brian Kendrick and attempted to express his admiration, only to have Kendrick throw it back in his face. In a resulting matchup between the two Superstars this week, A-Kid slipped out of the Captain’s Hook and slingshot himself over the top rope with an earth-shattering DDT for the big victory.

My Opinion: 2.8 out of 5 – Kendrick was pretty giving to A-Kid, who has a lot of potential for the year. I’m glad we got the winner we got, because he’s a top prospect in professional wrestling him losing to a veteran would just be a waste.

Match #4: (Main Event) Kay Lee Ray def. Toni Storm – “I Quit” Match For The NXT UK Women’s Championship

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Hungry to finally regain the NXT UK Women’s Title from Kay Lee Ray, Toni Storm put it all on the line and agreed to NXT UK’s first-ever “I Quit” Match. Per a pre-match stipulation, a loss meant that Storm would not be allowed to challenge the Scottish titleholder for as long as she was champion. In the height of the knockdown, drag-out showdown, KLR tied Storm’s hands behind her back with athletic tape and unleashed a new level of pain with the help of a steel chair. The pure brutality soon brought NXT UK General Manager Johnny Saint, Assistant to the General Manager Sid Scala and finally Piper Niven to ringside in order to plead with Storm to say the words “I quit” before she got seriously hurt. Finally, encouraged by the urging of Niven, Storm realized she had no choice but to relent and hand the win to the relentless Women’s Champion.

My Opinion: 3.6 out of 5 – This was a strong match with plenty of taut action that got really mean at the end, which worked for the fight. Storm was excellent here and really played here role well. This was really good for the time it got and gave both women a shot in the arm that they’ve both needed desperately. Overall, if you like tough, gut-wrenching wrestling action, then this is one for you.

News Of The Night:

  1. WALTER fights Dave Mastiff, next week.

Final Verdict: 3.2/5

This was a decent show with a fine main event, but no real purpose other than getting to next week.
