‘All Elite Wrestling: Dark’ Review (Feb 25th 2020)

by Nathan Favel

Welcome to this week’s AEW Dark review, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and we have some matches, some good and some okay, which makes me feel like Jane Fonda in “The China Syndrome”. Hey, I’m one hot broad. Let’s rock, baby.

Match #1: Jimmy Havoc defeated Marko Stunt

My Opinion: 3.3 out of 5 – For all the talk of Stunt being too short to matter, he did damn well with Havoc, who got to show his wrestling ability for a change. These guys I really enjoyed this whole thing. The way these guys put a lot of power into each move gave this a grueling feel. There’s plenty of ground-and-pound, but the high-flying still found its way in, which isn’t a bad thing. Maybe we can see more of these guys in this context more often?

Match #2: The Dark Order defeated CIMA and T-Hawk

My Opinion: 3.2 out of 5 – The Japanese fighters made this worth watching. Give CIMA a f—— World Title shot. T-Hawk is cool too. Evil Uno sucks, but he’s good too. Does that make sense? Anyway, the match worked well for what it was and that’s about it.

Match #3: Joey Janela defeated Kip Sabian – Falls Count Anywhere Match

My Opinion: 3.7 out of 5 – Why was the main event put on next to last? This was fought like a main event, treated like a main event and seen as a main event, so why was it not the main event? This was mean, nasty wrestling on a grand scale and it was groovy. That’s right! I’m saying “groovy”! Evil Dead is getting another sequel from Sam Raimi, so it’s time to break out the cool words. This should have been on Dynamite.

Match #4: (Main Event) Dustin Rhodes and QT Marshall defeated Peter Avalon and Shawn Spears

My Opinion: 3 out of 5 – This was fine, with good work from every-body, but it was no main event. QT is getting more work than…a lot of more talented people. I guess it really is who you know. There’s nothing bad here, but I bet you won’t go wild over this either.

Final Verdict: 3.3/5

This was a fun show with no real reason to exist, but it could have been, if it would have put the Janela/Sabian match on last.
