‘All Elite Wrestling: Dark’ Review (Feb 4th & Feb 11th 2020)

by Nathan Favel

Welcome to this double-sized review of All Elite Wrestling Dark, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and we have longer matches and longer shows, so this ought to be much better than the past few weeks.

FEBRUARY 4th 2020

Match #1: Jurassic Express (Jungle Boy & Marko Stunt) defeated Sonny Kiss & Brandon Cutler

My Opinion: 3.3 out of 5 – This was a fun burst of action that had as many colors woven into it as a bowl of Fruit Loops at the Gay Pride Parade. Everybody worked well together and kept the pace up near where it always needed to be. This wasn’t long enough for my taste, but it was good enough for that same taste.

Match #2: Hikaru Shida defeated Mel

My Opinion: 1.6 out of 5 – You can just skip this s—. The wrestling didn’t get very far in quality and made me doubt what I’d do for a Klondike bar.

Match #3: Kenny Omega & RIHO defeated Kip Sabian & Penelope Ford

My Opinion: 3.7 out of 5 – This was the best so far and what this show should be about: good wrestling with no worries. All four of our designated drivers stayed on the road and didn’t hit any deer…or hookers. There was a peppy sort of chaotic feel to this, despite it all being relatively sedate for an Omega match. The right team won, but I wouldn’t have had an issue with the bookers jumping the shark all the way to shore, if you catch my drift.

Match #4: (Main Event) Best Friends defeated Shawn Spears & Colin Delaney

My Opinion: 3.5 out of 5 – This was another proper match that had lots of action and a surprise appearance from Delaney, who has been one of the most underrated for many years. Every-thing that needed to work did and was just as solid a match as you can hope for. It was nice to see a main event get room to breathe in this era of “Hurry Up! We only have three hours!”

FEBRUARY 11th 2020

Match #1: RIHO defeated Shoko Nakajima

My Opinion: 3.6 out of 5 – This was quite a few minutes shy of what it should have been, but this was also quite a few minutes of strong wrestling.

Match #2: Jimmy Havoc defeated Sonny Kiss

My Opinion: 3.1 out of 5 – This was a very interesting clash of characters and styles. Imagine watching Sid Vicious fight the cast of “The Birdcage”. Kiss remains too good for just appearing on “Dark” randomly. Hey, they’ve got to make room for Wardlow. There’s plenty of good action in here, like wondering why the jokes on the newer seasons of “Family Guy” suck so much. Cell phone jokes suck s—. Anyway, these two have an odd charm when they are together and I hope that they get a crack at doing this again.

Match #3: Hikaru Shida defeated Cassandra Golden

My Opinion: 3 out of 5 – This was a nice little match. Shida didn’t shida all over the place…not that she would. Golden was golden from bell to bell and that is that. I just made Dr. Seuss roll over in his grave. You’ll have a nice time with this match…dumb-ass.

Match #4: (Main Event) The Dark Order defeated Jurassic Express (Jungle Boy and Marko Stunt)

My Opinion: 3.2 out of 5 – This was a fun match that likely won’t make too many converts out of non-wrestling fans, but it worked for what it needed to do, which is weird people out with wrestlers that look like action figures from the movie “Warriors Of Virtue”. I did like this though, even though it was the Dark Order…who suck! Overall this was a fun main event.

Final Verdict: 3.5/5

I’m giving 3.5 to both weeks, especially to the first one.
