‘NWA Powerrr’ Review (Jan 21st 2020)

by Nathan Favel

Welcome to this week’s review of National Wrestling Alliance: Powerrr, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and we have a special 90-minute season finale for the go-home show to Hard Times. Ricky Morton is back to have his massive World Title Match against Nick Aldis. It sounds like we’ve got a good show here.

Match #1: Thunder Rosa defeated Tasha Steelz

My Opinion: 2.7 out of 5 – This was getting good, but it stopped after just two or so minutes. Why not let this sucker go for a while? Fortunately, this was a case of two women getting a lot in to a small space.

Match #2: Trevor Murdoch defeated Tom Lattimer – TV Title Tournament Match

My Opinion: 2.9 out of 5 – This was a brisk battle that went…two minutes. I thought the 90-minute window would allow for longer matches? Any-way, these two worked very well together for the time allotted and made the most of that time.

Match #3: Allysin Kay defeated Marti Belle – No Disqualification Match

My Opinion: 2.6 out of 5 – This was a short brawl that wasn’t much for high-octane action, but they did the standard fight around the crowd deal, so that’s about it. Kay looked tough here and makes for a convincing top star, especially if she performs like she did here all the time. Over-all, this was a decent way to re-affirm how good Kay is while giving the feud between these two a final chapter…maybe…probably not.

Match #4: TV Title Tournament Qualifier Gauntlet Match: Winner – Ken Anderson

My Opinion: 3.2 out of 5 – This was notable for CW Anderson looking better than he did when he was young, Zicky Dice getting over with a better promo than John Cena ever cut and Aron Stevens hiding under the ring and then getting paralyzed like Neville Longbottom. Ken was a fine winner for this match, especially with what happened after the match.

Match #5: (Main Event) Nick Aldis defeated Ricky Morton – National Wrestling Alliance World Title Match

My Opinion: 2.8 out of 5 – This was no barn-burner, but if you ever wanted proof that an old guy long past his prime could be more over than the World Champion, then this match is for you. Actually, this match reminded me of how much Nick Aldis really is just a mid-carder who got lucky. Morton, fighting like a potato with sour cream squirting out his French-fried ass, was able to do more with his mullet than Aldis was able to do with actually winning the match. Over-all, Ricky was the thing to see here.

News Of The Night:

1. Here’s the Hard Times card:

  • Tim Storm vs. Ken Anderson – TV Title Tournament Match
  • Ricky Starks vs. Matt Cross – TV Title Tournament Match
  • Zicky Dice vs. Dan Maff – TV Title Tournament Match
  • The Question Mark vs. Trevor Murdoch – TV Title Tournament Match
  • TV Title Tournament Semi-Finals And Finals
  • NWA Tag Team Champions The Rock & Roll Express vs. Wildcards vs. Drake & Storm
  • NWA National Champion Aron Stevens vs. Scott Steiner
  • Allysin Kay vs. Thunder Rosa – NWA Women’s Title Match
  • NWA Champion Nick Aldis vs. Flip Gordon

2. Ken Anderson turned on Colt Cabana.
3. Ricky Starks attacked Aron Stevens after a lame promo/karate demonstration.

Final Verdict: 2.7/5

It’s funny seeing a longer show feel like it had less in it than the shorter version from last week.
