‘Impact Wrestling’ Review (Oct 4th 2019)

by Nathan Favel

Welcome to this week’s Impact Wrestling review, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and…wrestling is cool. No weddings this week, which is good. Wrestling. Just have wrestling matches. No weddings! Okay. Wrestling. Now.

Match #1: Tenille Dashwood def. Madison Rayne & Kiera Hogan

The following is courtesy of impactwrestling.com:

Kiera and Madison work together to do damage to Tenille but in the end, only one can win this 3-way match. Tenille attempts to fight back on multiple occasions but continues to fall victim to the numbers game. Kiera attempts a dive to the outside but Tenille pulls Madison in front of her. Tenille powerbombs Madison on top of Kiera for a near fall. Tenille sends Kiera to the outside, then connects with the Spotlight kick on Madison to win.

My Opinion: 2.4 out of 5 – Tenille won, which is what matters. There was nothing bad here, but not as much was great as…I lost my train of thought. Tenille is the best of the three, so her winning doesn’t hurt my feelings.

Match #2: Johnny Swinger def. Owen Travers

The following is courtesy of impactwrestling.com:

It’s time for the in-ring debut of Johnny Swinger. He takes control of Travers in the early going. Swinger hits a big swinging neckbreaker to pick up the dominant victory.

My Opinion: 1.3 out of 5 – This sucked. Swinger is a great character, but his wrestling ability at this point isn’t much to speak of.

Match #3: Eddie Edwards & Kenny def. Reno Scum (Adam Thornstowe & Luster the Legend)

The following is courtesy of impactwrestling.com:

Eddie Edwards is teaming up with a kendo stick in this match. Eddie attempts to make the tag to Kenny but Luster stops him. Reno Scum beats down on Eddie with the 2-on-1 numbers advantage. Eddie gains momentum with a Blue Thunder Bomb to Thornstowe. Eddie makes the tag to Kenny, allowing Eddie to use the kendo stick as a weapon. Eddie hits Thornstowe with the Boston Knee Party to win.

My Opinion: 2.3 out of 5 – Eddie won with a !@#$%&? kendo stick. Moppy! Some-body call Perry Saturn and tell him his time has come.

Match #4: Daga def. Chris Bey – X-Division Championship Ladder Match Qualifier

The following is courtesy of impactwrestling.com:

X-Division Champion Jake Crist joins Don Callis and Josh Mathews on commentary. Daga hits a running dropkick for an early near fall. Bey sends Daga to the floor, then follows up with a dive over the top rope to the outside. Bey connects with a slingshot DDT for a two count. Daga hits a top rope Spanish Fly, followed by a modified butterfly driver to win.

My Opinion: 3.4 out of 5 – This was just what the doctor ordered. I know doctors! I talk to them and ask them why the medicine costs so much in America. Dr. Kevorkian hit me in the balls and told me not to ask for his assistance. Oh, this match kicked ass. Good, old fashioned X-Division stuff to shake at the Electro-Turkey on Christmas Day.

Match #5: (Main Event) Michael Elgin def. TJP w/ Fallah Bahh

The following is courtesy of impactwrestling.com:

TJP launches himself to the outside but Elgin catches him in mid-air and hits a big powerbomb on the apron. TJP connects with a springboard Hurricanrana, taking Elgin off the top. Elgin hits a massive clothesline for a two count. TJP dives through the ropes but Elgin counters into a slam on the steel ramp. Elgin follows up with a dead-lift suplex into a Falcon Arrow but TJP somehow kicks out. Elgin puts TJP away with a thunderous Elgin Bomb.

My Opinion: 3.5 out of 5 – This was another big hit from Impact’s current hit-maker, Elgin. These two really worked well together, focusing on their hold and locks looking convincing, while performing their bigger moves with confidence. This was fabulous stuff.

News Of The Night:

  1. James Mitchell is angry at Havok for killing Su Yung, because they have angered “you know who”. Voldemort?
  2. Moose reveals that MMA legend Frank Trigg is training him for the bout against Ken Shamrock at Bound for Glory.
  3. Jake and Dave Crist attacked Daga and Tessa Blanchard saved him.
  4. Las Vegas Police arrested Brian Cage for accidentally hurting a fan during a brawl with Sami Callihan.
  5. Ace Austin continued to trick Alisha Edwards into thinking Eddie Edwards is a drunk.
  6. The North is defending the Impact Tag Team Championships against the teams of Rich Swann & Willie Mack and Rob Van Dam & Rhino in a 3-Way Match at Bound for Glory.

Final Verdict: 3.3/5

The show had some good wrestling and less bull-$#!@ than usual, which is the way it should be.
