4 Card Games You Can Play with Your Friends

by James Smith

A rainy day on a vacation or just a boring night with nothing to do can always be spiced up with some fun games. Playing cards has existed since the middle ages, and over time people have come up with a multitude of different ways of using them for entertainment. Some of them are just for fun, while others can be highly competitive and include some gambling. In this article, we will mention some of the best card games that you can try out with a group of friends. Let’s begin.

Blackjack is an American card game that requires a minimum of two players. You will also need an additional player who is willing to be the dealer. Depending on the version of the game and the number of players, blackjack can be played with one to eight standard French decks. The goal of the game is to beat the dealer by reaching a total of 21 using the cards you have been dealt (this is why the game is also called Twenty-One). You can win in three ways — by getting 21 points from first two cards, getting a higher score than the dealer without exceeding 21, or by letting the dealer ‘bust’ and exceed 21 with his/her cards. However, there are several different variants of blackjack, each one with slightly different rules. This game is one of the most popular casino games in the world. You can also play it online, using various payment methods. Many casino sites even allow you to play bitcoin blackjack and compete against other online players.

Uno is really fun and can help you kill some time with your friends. The game uses a unique deck specially designed for the game, but it can also be played with regular cards if you determine which ones have special abilities. Between two and ten players can participate. At the beginning of the round, each player is dealt seven cards that can be of four different colours (red, yellow, blue, and green). The goal is to get rid of all of your cards before anyone else. You can only play the cards that match the colour or the number of the card that’s on the table (unless you have some special cards).

Apart from numbers 0 through 9, the deck includes a few extra cards that do the following:

  • Skip the next player in line.
  • Change the direction of the play.
  • Make the next player buy two extra cards and skip his/her turn.
  • Change the colour.
  • Change the colour and make the next player buy four extra cards.

Once a player is left with only one card, he or she has to say ‘Uno’ to declare that they have only one card left in their hands. If the player doesn’t say ‘Uno’ on time, it results in a penalty and that player needs to buy extra cards. The player who finishes first gets points which are equal to the total of the remaining players’ cards. There’s a little bit more to Uno rules, but the game is relatively simple to learn.

Go Fish

While it’s mostly played by kids aged four to 10, Go Fish can be fun to older players as well. The game is played with a standard deck and usually includes two to five players. The goal is to form a ‘book’ or four cards of the same value. The player in turn (let’s call her Sarah) asks if the next player (let’s call him John) has a specific card. John is required to give Sarah all of the cards that match the value of the card she has requested. If John doesn’t have any, he says to Sarah to ‘go fish’, and then she proceeds to draw one card from the pool of cards on the table. Once all players form ‘books’, the game ends and the player with the most set of books wins. Again, to fully understand the game, you will need to go over some other Go Fish rules that we didn’t have the time to explain here.

Just like blackjack, poker is another popular betting game. However, poker requires more skill than luck. Depending on the poker variant you and your friends choose to play, this game can include different rules and the number of cards used. You can play it with chips only, but poker is always more fun if it includes some money. Even the smallest of wagers can make poker more interesting and competitive.
