The Last Week in Wrestling #26 (Wrestling Round-Up)

by Nathan Favel

Welcome to this edition of The Last Week In Wrestling, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and we have an entire week to cover, so let’s do so.

Best Promo:

Bray Wyatt Hosts a Kids TV Show (WWE) – In what will likely be a one time thing, Bray Wyatt’s vignette as a demented kids show host was my best promo of the week. The only reason why I put it here is that through all the insanity, is because Bray still got to establish that this “new character” is still the old con-man Jim Jones-type. It was bizarre the whole way through, but it worked.

Best Move:

Power-Bomb (WWE) – AJ Styles power-bombed Rey Mysterio onto Samoa Joe. I don’t think I need to say much more than that, but here’s a few more: it was great.

Best Moment:

Dean Ambrose Rides Off (WWE) – At The Shield’s Final Chapter, Dean Ambrose left the WWE and ended the Shield on a high note, with a victory and closure.

Best Personality:

Renee Young (WWE) – Renee did well this week, especially with her husband Dean Ambrose leaving for other wrestling leagues.

Best Character:

Kevin Owens (WWE) – A heel turn you could see coming a mile away worked wonderfully from a guy who has found his stride, once again.

Best Performance:

Bandido (Ring Of Honor) – Bandido looked great in his main event match with PJ Black.

Best Wrestler:

AJ Styles (WWE) – AJ gave two great performances in one night and you just can’t beat that with anything less than perfection itself.

Best Card:

Monday Night Raw (WWE) – Raw itself may not have been that great, but the card was excellent and had enough good matches to actually qualify as a wrestling event. I know, what a shock.

Best Show:

Impact Wrestling – Impact had a great go-home show for the Rebellion Pay Per View that may not have been among the best wrestling events in history, but did make you want to see the PPV it was building towards.

Best League:

Major League Wrestling – MLW may not have any other awards, but this one belongs to the league based on pure feeling. I can’t explain it, but it’s just something that I can’t ignore. The whole show they had worked well and they promised great stuff for the future. I’m the most excited for what they’re going to do for the next few weeks, at least. So, I kind of explained it.

Best Match:

Brian Cage and LAX versus Johnny Impact and The Lucha Bros. (Impact Wrestling) – This was an excellent main event that worked great.

Final Verdict: 3.5/5

What can I say? It was a good week.
