‘Impact Wrestling’ Review (April 11th 2019)

by Nathan Favel

Welcome to this week’s review of Impact Wrestling, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and we have more the house that Don Callis steals loose change from…possibly. Okay, let’s see if AJ Styles is gonna show up/no he’s not.

Match #1: Moose def. Wentz w/ The Rascalz (Dez & Trey)

The following is courtesy of impactwrestling.com:

Wentz hits a Hurricanrana in the early going. Moose catches Wentz in mid-air but he fights out of it and sends Moose into the steel ring post! Moose hits a big delayed dropkick in the corner. Wentz flies over the top rope to the floor, taking out Moose who was playing to the crowd! Wentz hits a springboard corkscrew but somehow, Moose kicks out at one. Moose launches Wentz over the top to the floor as he crashes into the other Rascalz! Moose connects with the Spear to win.

My Opinion: 2.5 out of 5 – This was good, but it could’ve used a little more time to give them a chance to make the match worth having had done.

Match #2: Su Yung vs. Rosemary Ends in a No Contest

The following is courtesy of impactwrestling.com:

Su puts on the bloody glove in the early going but Rosemary fights it off. Rosemary hits a reverse DDT to build momentum. Rosemary connects with a running knee for a two-count. The Undead Bridesmaids get up on the apron. Kiera Hogan comes to ringside to help Rosemary fight them off. Rosemary confronts her and says she doesn’t need her help. The Bridesmaids attack both from behind, causing the no contest.

My Opinion: 2 out of 5 – This deserved an actual finish, because it almost got good.

Match #3: The North (Ethan Page & Josh Alexander) def. El Reverso & Sheldon Jean

The following is courtesy of impactwrestling.com:

Alexander hits Reverso with a twisting facebuster. Alexander connects with a sick powerbomb backbreaker on Reverso. Reverso gets the hot tag to Jean, who hits Page with a springboard clothesline! Page and Alexander hit a flurry of double team offense. Reverso hits a top rope Moonsault, taking out both Page and Alexander! Alexander and Page put Reverso away with a unique double team for the win!

My Opinion: 2.5 out of 5 – This was a fun debut for this team and it made for a good match.

Match #4: Madison Rayne def. Tessa Blanchard

The following is courtesy of impactwrestling.com:

Madison hits a huge top rope Hurricanrana! Tessa turns it around with a vicious running elbow, followed by a dropkick. Tessa continues to get in the face of Gail at ringside. Tessa hits a Codebreaker out of the corner. Tessa connects with Gail Kim’s finisher, Eat Defeat! Madison hits a Crucifix Bomb for a near fall. Tessa attempts to use a steel chair but Gail stops her from ringside! Madison rolls up Tessa off the distraction to win!

My Opinion: 2.5 out of 5 – This was a good, solid match that gave Rayne a chance to get some momentum going.

Match #5: (Main Event) Impact World Champion Johnny Impact & Knockouts Champion Taya Valkyrie def. Brian Cage & Jordynne Grace – Mixed Tag Team Match

The following is courtesy of impactwrestling.com:

Johnny avoids being tagged into the match because he doesn’t want to go face-to-face with Cage! Cage eventually gets Johnny in the match. Johnny fights back with a superkick. Cage catches another kick attempt from Johnny and hits a fallaway slam. Johnny hits Cage with a springboard corkscrew before tagging out of the match. Johnny trips up Jordynne from the outside, allowing Taya to take control. Jordynne connects with a running sitdown powerbomb out of the corner! Cage hits Johnny with a huge discus clothesline but Johnny rolls out of the ring to avoid the pin. Jordynne and Cage both fly to take out Johnny on the floor! Cage looks to put Johnny away when the referee, Johnny Bravo, trips up Cage! Johnny follows up with a kick to win!

My Opinion: 3 out of 5 – This was a fun main event that gave Cage and Grace a chance to outshine the champions.

News Of The Night:

  1. Rob Van Dam is returning to Impact Wrestling in the near future.
  2. Rosemary and Kiera Hogan were attacked by the Undead Bridesmaids.
  3. Ace Austin and Aiden Prince are now feuding.
  4. Killer Kross is being teased for a feud with Rich Swann and Willie Mack, by way of Kross trying to convince Mack that Swann is his enemy.
  5. The Deaners will debut with Impact, very soon.
  6. Eddie Edwards and Eli Drake tried to get a tag team title shot.
  7. Scarlett Bordeaux and Fallah Bahh fight the Desi Hit Squad, next week.

Final Verdict: 2.5/5

This was a run of the mill show that no more than what was necessary to build toward the next big card.
