‘RIng of Honor’ Wrestling Review (Dec 16th 2018)

by Nathan Favel

Welcome to this week’s Ring of Honor review, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and we have post-Final Battle, pre-Christmas “special” show, so let’s see what we get out of it.

Match #1: Twizted Sisterz (Holidead and Thunder Rosa) vs. Madison Rayne and Dr. Britt Baker

The following is courtesy of rohwrestling.com:

Rayne and Baker demanded this match after they were attacked by Twizted Sisterz at Survival of the Fittest last month. The popular duo went on the offensive right from the opening bell, but Twizted Sisterz gained the advantage after isolating Rayne. Rayne eventually tagged in Baker, who hit a flurry of offense before Twizted Sisterz began double-teaming her. They landed a backbreaker, lung-blower and flat-liner in succession, followed by an assisted backflip that likely would’ve ended the match had Rayne not made the save at the last second. Later, all four women battled in the ring at the same time. In the end, Thunder Rosa hit a double stomp off the top rope onto Baker’s back and pinned her for the win.

My Take: 2.5 out of 5 – There wasn’t much to this, but it was a fun match that didn’t feel very important.

Match #2: Christmas Surprise 10-Man Tag Team Match – Team Taven (Matt Taven, Brian Milonas, Jonathan Gresham, Beer City Bruiser and Marty Scurll) vs. Team Lethal (Jay Lethal, Cheeseburger, Rhett Titus, Vinny Marseglia and Jeff Cobb)

The following is courtesy of rohwrestling.com:

Before the match began, Lethal and Taven tried to swap Gresham and Marseglia, but the referee said no trades were allowed. Early in the match, Cheeseburger and Milonas were matched up. Outweighed by more than 200 pounds, Cheeseburger wisely ducked and dodged and made Milonas chase him, which left the big man gasping for air. Cheeseburger and Titus put aside their past differences and worked in tandem to attempt to suplex Milonas. However, Beer City Bruiser and Scurll entered the ring, and the two of them and Milonas worked together to suplex Cheeseburger and Titus. Later, Taven and Marseglia found themselves in the ring together. Both of the Kingdom members tried to tag out, but all of their teammates dropped down off the apron. Instead of locking up, Taven and Marseglia both slid out of the ring, and all 10 competitors began fighting on the floor. Bruiser went to the top rope and dove onto everyone but Taven, who had managed to get out of the way. Back inside the ring, everyone on Team Lethal except for Marseglia ganged up on Taven. The four Team Lethal members all covered Taven, but Gresham made the save. Eventually, Cobb hit a T-Bone suplex on Milonas and then delivered Tour of the Islands on Bruiser to win the match for Team Lethal.

My Take: 2.5 out of 5 – This was a real disappointment, considering the athletes involved here, as well as ROH’s history of great tag team matches. Rather than using this match as a chance to create new feuds and tease matches for the next year, this was booked to be more like The New Day’s Pan-Cake Parties. Sadly, this match just didn’t have any real ambitions beyond being some-thing to do for the week.

Final Verdict: 3/5

This was an innocuous show that didn’t really have any value, but came and went without any real incident.
