365Flicks & Nerdly heading to Comic Con Scotland: “For The Love of 80s”

by Kevin Haldon

That is right, the 80’s are heading to Scotland for Comic Con Scotland and into the heart of its capital city Edinburgh for Monopoly Events convention For The Love of 80s, and they are bringing some of the biggest if not the biggest talents of Film, TV and even some sports faces you will be able to lose your nostalgic mind to.

Here is the best part. Myself (Kevin – the talent) and my co-host Chris (the Scottish one) are making our way up to do some coverage of this awesome event. I mean, when we saw some of the names that were going to be only 40 minutes away from our sleepy little hermit town, it seemed rude of us not to attend this event. So if you are heading there keep an eye out for us, as we would love to chat to people who are fans of all things the 80’s had to offer. Who knows we could even end up having you on our podcast, wouldn’t that be real swell! Add to all of that our boss from Nerdly.co.uk will also be there making this our first official meet up with Phil himself so good times all round!

So how about a cheeky look at this line-up… Who can we expect to meet, get pictures taken with, share stories during Q&A panels and must likely blurt out “You’re A Legend!” to (in the least geeky way possible, you understand) while stood at there table trying to keep your composure:

May as-well start with the big man. David “The Hoff” Hasselhoff has become one of the most recognisable faces on television throughout the world. Aside from starring in Knight Rider (1982) along side his hi-tech superstar car KITT and Baywatch (1989), he is also an accomplished singer and previous judge on Britains got talent. Audiences first came to know Hasselhoff when he portrayed the popular “Dr. Snapper Foster” for six seasons on CBS’s soap opera The Young and the Restless before moving from daytime to prime time, as “Michael Knight” in NBC’s hit series Knight Rider. The role garnered him a “People’s Choice Award” for most popular actor and the show became a huge success around the world. At Comic Con Scotland you will have the opportunity to have a photograph with The Hoff alongside KITT. David Hasselhoff will be attending Comic Con Scotland on both days of the event 10-11 November 2018.
Ghostbusters was made in 1984 by Ivan Reitman. It is known as being one of the most popular family films ever made, made even bigger with the addictive soundtrack by Ray Parker Jr and spawned a sequel and even a remake. This event is your chance to hear what Ray Parker Jr and Ernie Hudson (Winston Zeddemore) have to say, the stories behind the scenes and listen to how Ray Parker Jr came up with the iconic sound of the movie. William Atherton from Ghostbusters and Die Hard fame was also to be there but had to pull out due to illness here at 365Flicks we hope he gets well soon.
Sam J. Jones was born in Chicago, Illinois but grew up in Sacramento, California. Before acting he served as a United States Marine and Playboy centrefold. He made his screen debut in the comedy film 10 (1979) then in 1980, he was cast in the iconic role of Flash Gordon in the cult classic of the same name. Flash was an American football hero who is skyjacked aboard Dr. Hans Zarkov’s rocket-ship along with his beautiful girlfriend Dale Arden. The threesome were drawn into the influence of the planet Mongo, ruled by Emperor Ming the Merciless. The evil Ming had been testing Earth with unnatural disasters, and deeming our world a threat to his rule. He also tried to take Dale as his concubine, attempts to execute Flash and destroy Earth. Flash had to avoid the amorous attentions of Ming’s daughter, and unite the warring kingdoms of Mongo to rescue Dale and save our world. Sam will be attending Comic Con Scotland on both days of the event 10-11 November 2018
Reverently described as The “Excellence of Execution” and trained in the storied Hart Family Dungeon, Bret Hart is arguably the greatest technical wrestler in WWE history. Hart found beauty in the wrestling simplicity. Clad in pink and black tights, he strode to the ring against the whirr of an electric guitar, pausing only to gift his trademark shades to a small child waiting ringside. Inside the ring, he wasted no movement, systematically focusing on his opponents’ weaknesses until they were too tired to endure his patented Sharpshooter submission. He was also an innovator of offence and possessed an uncanny ability to create pinning combinations out of seemingly any predicament. Hart emerged from Calgary’s Stampede Wrestling, coming to WWE as a tag team with his brother-in-law, Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart. Together, The Hart Foundation won the World Tag Team Titles twice and became one of the most popular pairings in WWE. From there, The Hart Foundation separated, and Bret became and instant sensation as a singles star. He defeated Mr. Perfect for the Intercontinental Championship in August 1991 and became a two-time holder of the title at WrestleMania VIII, where he defeated “Rowdy” Roddy Piper in a memorable clash. Hart won his first WWE Championship in a non-televised live event in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, forcing Ric Flair to submit to the Sharpshooter. It began the first of five WWE Title reigns for the man who boldly declared, “I’m the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be.” Bret will be attending Comic Con Scotland on both days of the event 10-11 November 2018
Battlestar Galactica ran for only 21 episodes but still became a massive cult favourite gaining millions of fans from all over the globe. It was remade in 2004 and ran for 4 series Listen to Dirk Benedict (Starbuck), Herbert Jefferson Jr (Boomer), Jack Stauffer (Bojay) & Terry Carter (Tigh) as they share stories from the original show.

These are just some of the guest highlights too, there are many many more awesome talents at this show. Now for the sad news… due to having been cast in a new movie coming in 2019, E.T. and Haunting of Hill House star Henry Thomas has had to pull out of this event along with his on screen E.T. mum Dee Wallace who were scheduled to appear on a reunion panel with Robert MacNaughton. We understand that this is their careers and wish them all the best (although I am pretty gutted) with what they are up too. Good news is these guests will be appearing in Manchester next month though. Hopefully I can catch Henry at another show.

Also at Comic Con Scotland: For The Love of 80s, will be:

However there is more to do than just meet your favourite 80’s icons! There are loads of props from movies and set pieces to have your photo taken with. Cosplay is a main stay for all of these events and I’m looking for to seeing the Scots people pull out the big guns so I can flood our Instagram with amazing images (let’s show the Americans how we do). This pre-con article has become pretty long winded so I am going to leave you guys with some awesome can info for what you can expect while there. We hope to see you all there and if you see us don’t hesitate to come over and say hello after all this event screams like its “made by geeks for all of us geeks”.

Have an amazing weekend fellow 80’s babies! And if you haven’t yet, get your tickets to Comic Con Scotland here: http://comicconventionscotland.co.uk/tickets
