Back This! – Rambo: The Board Game

by Phil Wheat

Welcome to the latest edition of our regular crowdfunding feature here on Nerdly – Back This! – where we take a look at some of the cool content taking the crowdfunding route on sites such as Indiegogo, Sponsume and Kickstarter. This month we’re spotlighting another fantastic new board game crowdfunding campaign. This one tied more closely to our other regular pop culture content… Rambo: The Board Game!

Developed by Chris Batarlis, Samuel Bailey, Brady Sadler and Adrienne Ezell, Rambo: The Board Game comes from Everything Epic, an independent tabletop game design and publishing company whose upcoming titles include the eagerly-awaited Big Trouble in Little China: the Game (Shipping March 2018).

Rambo: The Board Game is a “highly thematic, cooperative, and tactical miniatures mission-based campaign game that allows 1-4 players to experience the events you remember from the films as well as embark on new, never before seen missions”. You and your team will overcome enemies and obstacles as special forces Green Berets. To complete your missions, you’ll equip yourselves with Gear and Tactics, attack your objectives solo or cooperatively to stand as a force against the odds… and best of all you can play each game as characters from the movie, like John Rambo or Colonel Trautman!

The game provides sealed “legacy-like” Operation Envelopes which gradually expand the game as each mission completes. Each mission tells a story and takes the players on a unique adventure to various locations to save POWs, escape a military prison, raid a jungle encampment, defend a secret air base, or survive a treacherous jungle and much more! Missions unlock new gear and tactics cards to help players customize their experience and allow for high replayability and great tactical strategy. Taking actions and engaging in combat is done with a card-based system, the player is in control, and every choice may be life or death.

The Kickstarter campaign – which ends in a mere THREE days (as of writing) – has various levels at which you can back, each with their own perks, including:
