Trailer & Poster for Xavier Gens’ new horror ‘Cold Skin’

by Phil Wheat

At the vanguard of French extreme cinema, director Xavier Gens made his name with Frontiere(s) and The Divide. Now he brings us Cold Skin, a stunning adaptation of Albert Sánchez Piñol’s acclaimed novel that’s part H.P. Lovecraft, part Joseph Conrad and stars David Oakes and Ray Stevenson.

On the edge of the Antarctic Circle, a steamship approaches a desolate island. On board is a young man named Friend (David Oakes), poised to take the post of weather observer, to live in solitude at the end of the earth. But on shore he finds no trace of the man whom he has been sent to replace, just a deranged castaway, Gruner (Ray Stevenson), who has witnessed a horror he refuses to name. For the next twelve months his entire world will consist of a deserted cabin, trees, rocks, silence and the surrounding sea. Then night begins to fall and a race of amphibious humanoids emerge from the seas every night to besiege the lighthouse…

Cold Skin screens at this years Horror Channel Glasgow Frightfest on Friday March 2nd at 8.45pm.
