NYCC ’17: Hasbro’s Mighty Muggs are back!

by Phil Wheat

Pre-dating Funko’s oh-so-popular Pop! Vinyl range by a number of years, Mighty Muggs were – at one time – the hottest collectable on the planet. But interest from the mainstream never came and the figures never really took off in the way Pops have.

But whilst the franchise was discontinued, it didn’t mean that Mighty Muggs were ‘truly’ dead…

Last year at San Diego Comic Con, Hasbro brought not only Mighty Muggs back but also the Visionaries line, with an SDCC Exclusive Leoric figure. Before that, in 2014, there was an awesome SDCC Exclusive ROM The Space Knight Mighty Mugg. And now, at this years New York Comic Con, Hasbro have introduced TWO whole new waves of Mighty Muggs. Only these new versions are a little different from the original Mugg concept… Now made from vinyl/plastic rather than the recycled materials of the originals, the major difference is that figures this new line include a push-and-turn feature that lets you change their facial expression, a la MOTU’s Man-E-Faces!
