Check out the latest trailer for ‘The Glass Castle’
The movie that’s been in ‘talks’ for over five years finally sees a release date and a trailer for audiences to laud over. The Glass Castle first created hubbub in 2012 after Jennifer Lawrence’s name was attached to produce the film adaptation of Jeanette Walls’ novel.
With this being Lawrence’s first producing role, The Glass Castle is already seeing its popularity skyrocket after its trailer was released this weekend. The film, based off of Walls’ memoir of the same name, follows Walls’s dysfunctional upbringing, dealing with her abusive and alcoholic father and her aloof artist mother. Brie Larson stars as Jeannette Walls, with Naomi Watts playing her mother Rose Mary and Woody Harrelson playing her father Rex. Destin Daniel Cretton, who previously worked with Larson on Short Term 12, steps in as a writer and director for the film.
The trailer looks and grabs at one’s emotions almost immediately. The sense of a nomadic lifestyle led by kids who are just trying to survive dealing with their parents, let alone their own lives, is sensed right away. However, readers of the 2005 bestselling book are quick to point out that the trailer almost glorifies the father figure in a way. Throughout the entire novel– as well as some parts hinted with Rose Mary’s character in the trailer, Jeannette has very conflicted feelings in regards to her father and that is made apparent in every decision she makes. However, this trailer puts Rex in a sort of “man down on his luck” character that deserves the audience’s empathy.
Nonetheless, the trailer is stirring talks about the film’s premiere and how true it stayed to the novel. In addition to the main cast above, Sarah Snook (Steve Jobs) stars as Jeannette’s sister Lori, and Max Greenfield (New Girl) stars as Jeannette’s love interest David. The film is set to come out on August 11th. Check out the trailer below.
