‘The Coldest City’ gets a re-title and new poster

by Phil Wheat

Focus Features has released the first poster for director David Leitch’s (John Wick) latest film, the action thriller Atomic Blonde, which stars Charlize Theron, James McAvoy, John Goodman, Til Schweiger, Eddie Marsan, Sofia Boutella and Toby Jones.

Wait! I hear you cry. Wasn’t Charlize Theron’s new spy thriller called The Coldest City? It was indeed. The film was shot under that title – the same as the Oni Press graphic novel written by Antony Johnston and illustrated by Sam Hart – but has undergone a name change prior to the films debut at this years SXSW.

The official synopsis:

The crown jewel of Her Majesty’s Secret Intelligence Service, Agent Lorraine Broughton (Charlize Theron) is equal parts spycraft, sensuality and savagery, willing to deploy any of her skills to stay alive on her impossible mission. Sent alone into Berlin to deliver a priceless dossier out of the destabilized city, she partners with embedded station chief David Percival (James McAvoy) to navigate her way through the deadliest game of spies.

Atomic Blonde opens in the U.S. on July 28th.

Good grief. What a dumbing down of a very interesting and complex graphic novel. Atomic Blonde? Seriously?
