Laid To Rest no more… ‘Nail Gun Massacre’ remake announced
Terry Lofton and Bill Leslie’s 80s slasher The Nail Gun Massacre has had something of a resurgence in popularity lately – finally debuting on Blu-ray on both sides of the pond: in 2014 Code Red released the film in the US, whilst here in the UK the film was released as part of 88 Films Slasher Classics in 2015.
However that rebirth of The Nail Gun Massacre wouldn’t have been possible without the VHS re-release of the film as part of May 2012’s Texas Frightmare Weekend. Released in a numbered and limited version (only 1000 copies exist), with red VHS cassette, the tape brought the film a new audience – myself included – allowing a new generation to appreciate the films “unique” style of storytelling.
I mention the limited Texas Frightmare VHS release (pictured above) of The Nail Gun Massacre as the founder of that horror festival, Lord Cryer, is bringing us the remake! Cryer is teaming with Laid to Rest/Chromeskull director Robert Hall – who is apparently a fan of the original film and worked on bringing it to Blu-ray in 2014. Hall and Cryer will produce the remake and Hall will also direct.
Says Hall:
I’ve been really fortunate to have amazing casts in all my films despite the budget and although I can’t reveal anything just yet, Nail Gun will be no different and feature a familiar and stellar cast … It’s going to be a FUN MOVIE for sure, however the new screenplay is really smart and we are pulling back on the camp for sure. It’s an update for today’s demanding audience, bringing you WTF superb nail gun kills of course.
The remake of The Nail Gun Massacre is penned by Darren Bevill, writer of 2015 film Appetites, and starts shooting in Texas late this summer for release sometime in 2018. I can’t wait!
