‘Shortcuts to Hell 2’ finalists announced – Public vote open!

by Phil Wheat

Shortcuts to Hell 2, launched by Horror Channel, FrightFest, Movie Mogul and Wildseed Studios has revealed the three filmmakers who will face the public vote to decide who has their short film financed, produced and shot as a full-length feature. The winner’s film will be produced by Horror Channel, Movie Mogul and Wildseed Studios, entering production early 2015. The completed feature will receive UK digital distribution, its world premiere at Film4 FrightFest 2015, and a broadcast premiere on Horror Channel.

Chosen from an ultimate shortlist of thirteen entries by a panel of judges, the three finalists are:

Directed by Michael Down
Synopsis: Two brothers leave for an all-inclusive holiday but only one shows up. One brother searches for the other through the booze-filled hedonistic streets, unveiling the dark side of package trips.

Directed by Stanislava Buevich
Synopsis: Geoffrey is finally home recovering from a recent heart transplant, but is he the same boy he was before? Or has something gone very very wrong….

Directed by Joe & Lloyd Staszkiewicz
Synopsis: Hubert lives a teenager’s life in a haunted house with his family, his dead best friend, Angèle, and a number of other ghostly residents, most of which are vengeful and violent. Luckily, Hubert and his family can’t be seen, providing they wear scary Halloween costumes at all times. Then one day, under the spell of Angele, Hubert decides to remove his mask…

Of the judging process John Shackleton of Movie Mogul said:

This year, we were not just looking for a great short film, we were looking at the potential and originality of an idea, alongside the filmmakers storytelling prowess and their ability to deliver the goods under a very restrictive micro budget. On top of this, we were looking for feature films that we actually wanted to see made and would be suitably inspired to want to produce and bring to the big screen. I’m really excited by the final three, of course I have my favourite, as does each of the judges (we didn’t agree on everything!), but I’d be genuinely happy and excited to produce any one of these ideas, working with these clearly very talented individuals.

The voting kicks off on 18 August exclusively at www.horrorchannel.co.uk and ends on 30 September. The finalists will premiere their films at this year’s Film4 FrightFest event at the Vue West End on 23rd August and have an opportunity to win the hearts and minds of the FrightFest audience.

A feature-length anthology of the shortlisted films, including an insight into the judging process, is available to stream or download now exclusively at http://www.TheHorrorShow.TV
