Preview: ‘Video Nasty: The Comic Book’

by Phil Wheat

There’d been an online buzz about Mario Covone’s new horror comic Video Nasty, which tells a scary story that at the same time deals with the politics behind government censorship and media manipulation before this past weekend’s Glasgow Frightfest – however it was this weekend when I managed to grab a copy of the ashcan for the book which, whilst not revealing much about the over-arcing story, provided a great look at the artwork and script of what looks to be an unmissable read.

England, 1983. Police Inspector David Gorely must solve a string of murders whilst contending with pressure from his superiors to find a link between the killer and the recent influx of horror home videos. The race is on to solve the case before the death toll rises whilst still dealing with the burden of connecting these heinous crimes to video nasties!

Video Nasty is written by Mario Covone (Circles, A Stranger Comes to Town), features art by Vasilis Logios and has, as the cover artist, the legendary Graham Humphreys – the UK artist that is renown for his poster/VHS covers for the likes of The Evil Dead 1 and 2, A Nightmare on Elm Street, House of 1000 Corpses and Basket Case.
