‘WWE Money in the Bank 2013’ Blu-ray Review

by Chris Cummings

One of the most anticipated nights on the WWE Calendar, Money In The Bank. A chance for a Superstar to win a briefcase containing a contract granting them a championship match anytime & anywhere they want. With nearly a 100% record when it comes to those who have won the briefcase becoming champion, this event will very much shape the course of the WWE for the future.

Money in the Bank is a great concept for a pay per view and one of the year’s numerous events that I, and many wrestling fans, look forward to. There are two ladder matches featuring an array of performers, and they must climb the ladder, grab a briefcase and gain a championship shot at any time they choose. This allows a variety of superstars to get a push into the main event picture where they might not have previously been.

The matches:

  • World Heavyweight Championship Money in the Bank Contract Match – Fandango vs. Dean Ambrose vs. Jack Swagger vs. Antonio Cesaro vs. Cody Rhodes vs. Damien Sandow vs. Wade Barrett.
  • Intercontinental Championship Match – Curtis Axel vs. The Miz
  • WWE Divas Championship Match – AJ Lee vs. Kaitlyn
  • Chris Jericho vs. Ryback
  • World Heavyweight Championship Match – Alberto Del   Rio vs. Dolph Ziggler
  • WWE Championship Match – John Cena vs. Mark Henry
  • WWE Championship Money in the Bank Contract Match – Rob Van Dam vs. Christian vs. Daniel Bryan vs. Randy Orton vs. Sheamus vs. CM Punk.

There are many highlights from this event, and the ladder matches especially are very fun and rewatchable. The book ending of starting and ending the show with the Money in the Bank matches works well and keeps the fans interested throughout. There are duds in here, with the John Cena and Mark Henry match being dull for the most-part and the Jericho vs. Ryback match feeling like pure filler. The divas match is one of the best women’s wrestling matches in years with great psychology from both women. The Del Rio vs. Ziggler match is excellent and features a fantastic double-turn from the competitors.

There is plenty here to like, and in my view this is one of the best shows of 2013 so far, with a mostly excellent in-ring product and plenty of storyline developments. We also see the return of Rob Van Dam, who gets a massive reaction from the fans in attendance.
